Diagnostic trajectories in #sarcoma and #rarecancerpatients-in-general are often complex with delays at different levels due to the unfamiliarity of people, (the later)patients, and doctors with the disease and the heterogeneity in histologies and clinical presentations. This may lead to late diagnoses and frustration at all levels and reduced HRQoL of patients. Olga Husson presented at #ESMOSarcomaRareCancers meeting in Lugano results of a study in the Netherlands on diagnostic trajectories of rare cancer patients and Emily Holthuis, PhD student of our team, presents a poster today with interesting results of symptoms reported by patients to their GP prior to their #sarcoma diagnosis. The discussant yesterday highlighted results of our QUEST study in which we compare diagnostic trajectory data between the UK and The Netherlands in #Sarcoma (Vicky Soomers). More results will follow the coming time. Grateful to the hard work of our research team #AYASARCOMA The Netherlands Cancer Institute Olga Husson. Hopefully this work will give us hints for the future in solving part of this difficult to crack multifactorial delay-in-diagnosis issue.

Su Cancers MDPI è stato pubblicato l'articolo "Oxidative Stress Correlates with More Aggressive Features in Thyroid Cancer", con diversi specialisti di Auxologico. L'obiettivo dello studio era di investigare l'impatto dello stress ossidativo (OS) nella patogenesi e progressione del cancro alla tiroide e di correlare il grado dello stress con il profilo genetico e di espressione dei tumori e le caratteristiche clinico-patologiche dei pazienti. Nei tumori maligni, l'OS risultava inversamente correlato con la differenziazione tumorale, e direttamente correlato con la presenza di mutazioni somatiche e con la peggiore presentazione del tumore e maggiore aggressività tumorale. L'aumento dello stato di OS nei tumori tiroidei merita ulteriori indagini poiché potrebbe avere rilevanza diagnostica, prognostica e terapeutica. Bladder Cancer poses a significant and increasing threat to the Indian population. It's vital for both doctors and patients to be well-informed to ensure early detection and effective management. Research indicates that up to half of bladder cancer patients experience relapse post-bladder removal, with 70-90% of cases leading to distant metastasis and poor prognosis. I recently attended the "Perspectivas em Oncologia" congress, a Portuguese scientific event that brought together national and international experts to discuss the future of cancer care, especially for breast cancer. It was great to hear about the advances in breast cancer research and treatment which offer renewed hope for women facing this disease. The perfect example for what tasks AI should be used for to save lives! An AI tool called Mia tested by the NHS analysed the mammograms of over 10,000 women and then successfully identified tiny signs of breast cancer in 11 women which had been missed by human doctors. "The BBC saw Mia in action at NHS Grampian, where we were shown tumours that were practically invisible to the human eye. But, depending on their type, they can grow and spread rapidly. Barbara was one of the 11 patients whose cancer was flagged by Mia but had not been spotted on her scan when it was studied by the hospital radiologists." OSNA in ambito neoadiuvante! Uno studio recente condotto da Bernet et al. ha identificato un nuovo metodo per stratificare le pazienti in gruppi a rischio di progressione, basandosi sul carico tumorale totale (TTL). I risultati sono stati sorprendenti! Nelle pazienti che hanno ricevuto una terapia neoadiuvante per il carcinoma mammario e sono state sottoposte ad analisi SLNB utilizzando OSNA, è emerso che un valore TTL superiore a 25.000 copie/μL è associato a un rischio di progressione più elevato, mentre un valore superiore a 15.000 copie/μL è predittivo del coinvolgimento non-SLN. 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝘄𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗢𝗦𝗡𝗔 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝗼-𝗮𝗱𝗷𝘂𝘃𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘀𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴! The latest study by Bernet 𝘦𝘵 𝘢𝘭. stratifies breast cancer patients into progression risk groups based on Total Tumour Load (TTL). The clinically relevant TTL cut-off values were validated for prediction of non-SLN involvement and patient’s prognosis. In breast cancer patients who had received neo-adjuvant therapy and underwent SLNB analysis using OSNA, a TTL value of >25,000 copies/μL was associated with a higher progression risk and >15,000 copies/μL was predictive of non-SLN involvement.
