Engaging men in gender equality via men's well-being. This morning, ECUE conducted a talk on the topic of masculinity, gender norms and men's well-being for Decathlon. Many men were surprised by the numbers such as men dying 5 years earlier than women, the rate of men committing suicide is 3 times higher than that of women in Vietnam. Globally, the rate of men dying from external causes is 4 times higher and due to homocide is 7 times higher than that of women. In particular, the connection between masculinity, the gender role of being the breadwinner and stress, and men's high-risk behaviors have made people really care about gender stereotypes. Recognizing gender norms to get rid of them is a way to help men improve their mental health and reduce high-risk behaviors.
