At Neste we are fully committed to supporting the aviation industry in their journey to reduce aviation emissions. Expanding the availability of sustainable aviation fuel (#SAF) is key and we have some good news to share👇. We have now expanded our capability to supply sustainable aviation fuel to customers across Europe leveraging existing fuel supply infrastructure in cooperation with VTTI. This enables our customers to accelerate SAF usage at European airports and lays a strong foundation for fulfilling the requirements of the ReFuelEU Aviation Regulation, mandating the supply of a minimum share of SAF to European airports from 2025 onwards. This milestone is part of Neste’s ongoing expansion of global SAF production and supply capabilities, which will increase our SAF production capability to 1.5 million tons in 2024. I think its important to understand here the economy of scale required to deploy the SAF business. Some numbers in perspective would make it easier.. Globally the currrent (2023) consumption is roughly around 100 billion gallons equivalent to around 400 billion liters. Taking an avergae density as 0.8 kg/L the amount is in the ball park of 320 million metric tonnes of aviation fuel that was used last year. The current SAF prodcution in 2023 was 600 million liter ( equvalent to 500,000 metric tonnes). And most of it was HEFA. The plan for 2024 was to triple it (1.9 billion liter) which again is HEFA based and mostly by Neste. As of today there is no SAF production from AtJ pathways.

Power2X and Advario are setting new benchmarks in the decarbonization of aviation with the announcement of a world-scale e-SAF production and storage hub in Rotterdam. This facility will produce over 250,000 tonnes of e-SAF annually, providing enough fuel to power approximately 7,000 flights from Amsterdam to New York each year. With strategic support from Advario, including a 230,000 cubic meter storage and logistics facility, this project will play a key role in meeting Europe’s ReFuelEU Aviation Regulation requirements. Occo Roelofsen, CEO of Power2X, and Bas Verkooijen, CEO of Advario, both highlight the partnership’s critical role in establishing the infrastructure for a global-scale e-SAF supply chain. Meanwhile, Boudewijn Siemons, CEO of the Port of Rotterdam Authority, emphasized Rotterdam's strategic importance in the energy transition. With direct access to European airports and supported by an advanced supply chain, this facility will contribute 40% of the e-SAF volumes required to meet Europe’s decarbonization targets. #SAF #eSAF #Power2X #Advario #PortOfRotterdam #SustainableAviationFuel

The future of aviation is sustainable. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) forecasts that 65% of the decarbonization target by 20250 will be achieved using SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel). Despite high global demand, current production is low, accounting for less than 1% of the aviation industry's supply. To overcome current supply limitations and achieve the necessary scale for a true energy transition with price parity, Acelen Renewables is innovating with the development of macauba, a highly competitive Brazilian plant, through a fully integrated seed-to-fuel model. With an investment exceeding 3 billion dollars in the first phase, we will introduce SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel) and Renewable Diesel on a large scale in the coming years. We are currently negotiating long-term contracts that will extend into the future. The world needs it. The future asks for it. So, we’ll accelerate it! #energy #renewableenergy #contracts #business #SAF #macauba

North America has seen new sustainable aviation fuel agreements this month announced by Boeing and Canada’s WestJet, as well as Air New Zealand for supply in Los Angeles, reports Tony Harrington for GreenAir News. Boeing has signed deals with multiple SAF suppliers to source 9.4 million gallons of blended product, its biggest single annual commitment. Of this, 4 million gallons are destined for its Pacific Northwest fuel farms and another 5.4 million gallons for distribution through book-and-claim programmes. In Canada, Calgary-based WestJet has bought the first SAF supplied in the country through Shell Aviation’s #Avelia book-and-claim system. And in Los Angeles, Air New Zealand is taking delivery this year of 9 million litres (2.4 million gallons) of neat SAF produced in Singapore by renewable energy group Neste. Additionally, Boeing has just partnered with Australia’s Wagner Sustainable Fuels in developing a SAF blending facility in the state of #Queensland. #sustainableaviation #sustainableaviationfuels https://lnkd.in/eqMNZPWT
