🗓️Mark your calendars! EERA Joint Programme Clean Energy Transition for Sustainable Society (e3s) is hosting an 💻online workshop on "Cultural engagement through digitalisation as a driver of a Just Clean Energy Transition." This event is part of the Sustainable Places Conference 2024 happening on 25 September. ⚡Why this matters? While cultural policies can be effective to drive changes in climate and energy behaviours, they are often overlooked. Despite the 📈 growing number of events and advocacy networks focusing on the topic, there is still a gap in research and evidence on how cultural participation influences behavioural change. 🔬What to expect? The Joint Programme e3s has launched a comprehensive exploration on how cultural engagement, powered by digitalisation, can contribute to a just energy transition. The workshop will unveil the main findings and insights. Click here to learn more: https://lnkd.in/eYF6utVZ EERA JP e3s - clean Energy tranSition for Sustainable Society

DRIVING THE GLOBAL SUSTAINABILITY AGENDA THROUGH COLLABORATIVE ACTIONS In a rapidly evolving world, the energy sector plays a pivotal role in shaping the trajectory of a collective future. Confronted with pressing challenges like climate change, resource depletion, social disruption, as well as the need for energy security - it becomes imperative to rethink strategies and develop collaboration across the entire energy value chain. In a globalised world, all actors are connected by the consequences of collective actions. Meaning global challenges can be only solved together. Sharing best practices, pooling resources, and fostering international cooperation are vital for addressing the transboundary challenges that our planet faces. Attendee Insights: During this keynote speech, the need but also ability of the energy industry to leverage its existing competence and expertise to actively contribute to the energy transition and a more sustainable future are emphasised. There is still time to book your delegate pass to join the remainder of the EGYPES 2024 Sustainability in Energy Conference program. 📄 The seventh factsheet from the SESA Project Sustainable Energy Solutions Catalogue is dedicated to 𝗖𝗶𝗿𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆. ♻️ Today’s predominantly linear economy works by using resources to manufacture products which are later disposed of at the end of their useful life. A #circulareconomy can be defined as 𝗮 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗽 𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗮𝘄 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗱, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵 𝗶𝘀 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝘂𝘀𝗲. 🙌 Achieving circularity in businesses and economies is a necessary step to #sustainability, as well as a source of economic opportunities. 🌍 This factsheet focuses on 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗶𝗿𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 (such as sustainable e-mobility or solar off-grid solutions) in the African context. It also presents the socio-economic impacts of #circularity and the potential for scaling up the approaches, and gives examples of the application of circularity principles in sustainable energy in the African context and within the SESA Project. This is a question I find absolutely interesting and necessary in the #energytransition: How do energy companies reach absolute sustainability? For the growing renewable energy industry it is an inherent paradox that growth in economy and materials are necessary (in our current common understanding) to meet political targets and necessary transitions away from fossil fuels. But no matter what industry, you are in, the growth paradigm is what is destroying the livelyhood of people (and other living species) on this planet. So the growth must happen in another way than we are used to. But how? No clue! Yet. Looking very much forward to this webinar! Thank you for sharing, Eva Ravn Nielsen.
I have no clue! (yet) 🤷♀️ What is meant by 'Absolute Sustainability' for #energy companies? But... ...tomorrow (on May 2nd), I will join a webinar and become wiser! 🤯😄 👉 Join me! Sign up here: https://lnkd.in/dVVyd5tQ My good colleague Thomas Fruergaard Astrup, Sustainability Lead in Ramboll’s #Energy Division along with Michael Hauschild, Professor and Head of the Centre for Absolute Sustainability at DTU - Technical University of Denmark University of Denmark will speak of: • What is 'absolute sustainability'? • Why should energy companies consider absolute sustainability across business and operations? • Practical applications for companies in the energy sector The teaser says: ✔ 'Absolute sustainability' is about meeting the needs of current and future generations without exceeding the planetary boundaries. ✔ Energy production and consumption have significant environmental and social impacts, including greenhouse gas emissions, air and water pollution, habitat destruction, and community displacement. ✔ As such, energy companies have a responsibility to mitigate these impacts and stay within the planetary boundaries. ✔ But how does this apply in practice? ▶ Feel free to share and repost. Thanks! 🙏 #AbsoluteSustainability #EnergyTransition #PartnerForSustainableChange #Sustainability

One of the more interesting parts of how the UK is approaching industrial decarbonisation, is the way it encourages networking and partnerships (via net zero clusters) as a way to change how industry operates. In their latest piece of research for the Industrial Decarbonisation Research and Innovation Centre (IDRIC), Sussex Energy Group researchers Benjamin Sovacool Kyle S. Herman, Ph.D. Marfuga Iskandarova and Jeremy Hall combined insights from different fields of study (transition studies and economic geography) with as many as 111 interviews and 54 site visits to assess how well this approach is working and what we can learn from it. Here's what they found: https://lnkd.in/e4pAYw2s Oh Yes Net Zero
