Ever heard of a Digital Twin? It's like a high-tech digital replica of our oceans, using tons of data from different sources to help us understand and protect marine environments better. At EFFECTIVE, we're diving into this tech to create a Digital Twin of Blue Parks. By teaming up with experts and using top-notch data from platforms like SeaDataNet and EMODnet, we're working on accurate models to predict and tackle the effects of climate change and pollution on our seas. Through our partnership with MARIS B.V., ETT S.p.A., Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas (FORTH), DHI, CMMI - Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute, and Mercator, we ensure that the correct data is integrated into existing services, enhancing our efforts to support a sustainable blue economy. It's all about using innovation to keep our oceans healthy and thriving! 🌊🌍 Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/dyTjTgVX #DigitalTwin #Sustainability #BlueParks #EFFECTIVE

At the Digital Ocean Forum 2024. Witnessing the grand launch of the prototype of the future ocean internet: the European Digital Twin of the Ocean. This new tool is combining and integrating key service components of the existing EU ocean observing, monitoring and data programs, namely “Copernicus Marine Service” and the “European Marine Observation & Data Network (EMODnet). It is a powerful tool and clearly a gamechanger. Hugely important for scientists, policymakers, stakeholders, investors and the public. Critical for maritime spatial planning, ecosystem evaluation, restoration of coastal ecosystems, bolstering coastal resilience and adaptive capacity, fisheries management, deployment of renewable ocean energy, strengthen security, testing ocean solutions, projecting developments, assessing and simulating risk and tracking impact and of course policy-making and ocean literacy It provides critical evidence for data-driven decisions for healthy oceans and a sustainable blue economy and puts cutting-edge ocean information at our fingertips. Looking at the ocean using multiple data layers. Visualising climate and environmental change. The ocean like you have never seen it before. Kudos to the European Commission & external teams involved. The prototype is already impressive and will get even better with more data coming to it in the future and all the potential applications to be developed around this including making this as user-friendly as possible. One of the data gaps apparently is biodiversity but it is said that there are already projects working on plugging this gap. #DOF2024 #MissionOcean Zoi Konstantinou Andreea Strachinescu Delilah Al Khudhairy Ruben Eiras Antje Biber Catherine Frideres Daniela C. 🌊Towards a Digital Twin of the Ocean? 🌐 If the term sounds like a title from a dystopian futuristic movie, fear not – I've got your back! 🎬 The concept of a "Digital Twin of the Ocean" is a cutting-edge technological marvel, not a sci-fi script. 🚀 Imagine creating a detailed virtual replica of the vast and mysterious ocean, mirroring its every current, temperature change, and marine life movement in real-time. 🤔 But why would anyone want to do that? A Digital Twin of the Ocean would serve as a powerful tool for understanding, monitoring, and safeguarding our marine ecosystems. This technology would be key to: 🔍 Understand Ocean Dynamics 🌊 Predict and Prevent Disasters 🦈 Preserve Marine Biodiversity 💻 Foster Sustainable Practices Follow for more information about our seas and the intersectional innovation we need 🌊 🚀 #DigitalOceanTwin #OceanConservation

➡ How will LandSeaLot contribute to the Digital Twin Ocean initiative? 🚀 One of LandSeaLot’s objectives is to produce FAIR data and data products from land-sea interface observations, which will be available on the EDITO - European Digital Twin Ocean platform! The DOF 2024 Forum will showcase the capabilities of the EU Digital Twin Ocean, a public service initiative by the European Commission designed to enhance ocean resource management, address climate change, and promote sustainable operations within the Blue Economy. 🌊 The Digital Twin Ocean (DTO) is revolutionising how we understand and protect our marine environment. To make the most of DTO, it's crucial to harmonise in-situ and satellite data. This means creating consistent protocols and interoperable data standards across different observing communities. ❓ Why? Because models fill gaps in our observations and are essential for running robust “what-if” scenarios, key to supporting the EU Green Deal. That’s where LandSeaLot comes in! 👉 Our project is dedicated to improving data interoperability and ensuring smooth data flows to the DTO. By combining diverse data sources seamlessly, we are paving the way for a more accurate and effective digital twin capacity. 📌 To follow how LandSeaLot will explore new possibilities for ocean conservation and sustainable development subscribe to our newsletter https://lnkd.in/eu3Y4iCR ⚓ The future is blue and digital! #DOF2024 #EDITO_DTO, #MISSIONOCEAN #DigitalOceanForum2024 #EUDTO #BlueEconomy #ClimateChange #OceanConservation #Sustainability #EUGreenDeal EMODnet EU Science, Research and Innovation Seascape Belgium +ATLANTIC Mercator Ocean International Horizon Europe

📰 Sinay in Financial Times ! We can combine #biodiversity conservation with #business efficiency using the best available information, partly thanks to #AI. On the photo you can see our Passive Acoustic Monitoring buoy with embadded AI to detect marine mammal sounds to avoid potential negative impact during offshore construction. We also use AI to predict CO2 emissions of ships to accelerate decarbonisation of ocean freight. Thank you Javier Espinoza for this impactfull article !
