Congratulations to our first cohort of graduates from eHealth Queensland’s First Nations Digital Career Program. 👏 The program supports First Nations peoples pursuing digital careers by providing a pathway to employment through a culturally safe information technology education program. Our trainees spent 18 months working across various roles within eHealth Queensland while completing their Certificate IV in Information Technology. A big thank you to the teams who supported the trainees during their time gaining experience at eHealth Queensland. 🙂 We're now working with hospital and health services to expand the program further, with up to 16 new trainees being onboarded in the next couple of weeks. This will provide further statewide digital career opportunities for First Nations peoples.

Meet Augustina Oha, PhD, a dedicated member of our PH360 program from Walden University, USA. Initial Impressions: After exploring the program's website and understanding its objectives, I was immediately drawn to join. I sensed that this program could enhance my skills, making me more employable in the public health sector. The prospect of refining my resume to match entry to mid-level public health positions was particularly appealing. Impact on Career: PH360, as I perceive it, serves as a hands-on workforce development platform, nurturing the next wave of public health professionals, especially those lacking essential skills. Although I've just begun the three-month program, I'm confident that by its conclusion in May, I'll possess the competencies necessary for employment in the field of public health. Key Takeaways: While I'm only in the initial stage of the program, I anticipate acquiring a comprehensive skill set by its conclusion. My goal is to secure employment in the public health domain, improve my communication abilities, and develop proficiency in planning and executing public health initiatives. Discover more about #PH360 at myghep.org/ph360. Join us in creating a positive impact! #PublicHealth #PHProfessional

As I look back on my career, I'm filled with a deep sense of pride and gratitude for the experiences that have shaped my professional journey. For over a decade, I served as a primary care physician in Trinidad, dedicated to providing compassionate, patient-centred care. My work was fulfilling, but like many International Medical Graduates (IMGs), I faced significant challenges when I moved to Canada 2.5 years ago. The reality is, finding your place as an IMG in Canada is incredibly difficult—whether it’s pursuing a medical license or charting a new career path. For me, the decision to explore an alternative path was not easy, but it was driven by a desire to continue making a meaningful impact on patient care, now from a non-clinical role. That’s when I discovered the Postgraduate Advanced Diploma in Digital Health & Data Analytics (DHDA) at the Michener Institute. The program was brand new, and I signed up for the second cohort, drawn by the opportunity to be at the forefront of healthcare innovation. Over the past two years, I’ve immersed myself in learning how digital health can transform patient outcomes and streamline healthcare delivery. The journey has been long and challenging, but it has also been incredibly rewarding. Today, I’m thrilled to share that I have successfully completed this education milestone. I’ve acquired new skills, broadened my perspectives, and positioned myself to contribute to the healthcare industry in a non-clinical, yet deeply impactful way. Innovation is now at the heart of my career, and I’m excited to see where this new path will take me. To all my fellow IMGs facing similar challenges—know that there are many ways to make a difference in healthcare. While the road may be difficult, the possibilities are endless. Here’s to new beginnings and the exciting journey ahead! 🚀 #CareerJourney #DigitalHealth #IMG #HealthcareInnovation #MichenerInstitute #DHDA #PatientCare #NewBeginnings

🌟 Proud to Share My Capstone Project for Carewest! 🌟 I had the privilege of completing a capstone project with Carewest Innovative Health Care, focusing on one of the most pressing challenges in healthcare today: recruiting and retaining occupational therapists (OTs). 💡 The Challenge Canada is facing a critical shortage of healthcare professionals, including OTs, which is impacting patient care and organizational stability. My goal was to develop actionable strategies that align with Carewest’s strategic objectives, including organizational growth, financial sustainability, and workforce development. 🔍 What I Did ✔️ Conducted a comprehensive analysis of turnover data, workforce trends, and systemic challenges. ✔️ Engaged with stakeholders through interviews and surveys to understand barriers and opportunities for improvement. ✔️ Applied systems thinking to identify solutions that address the root causes of recruitment and retention challenges. 📄 The Outcome The project culminated in a detailed report featuring: ✔️ Clear and actionable recommendations for recruitment and retention. ✔️ Updated job postings tailored to attract top OT talent. ✔️ Career development pathways designed to enhance professional growth and long-term engagement. ✨ Why This Matters This work is not just about filling positions—it’s about creating an environment where healthcare professionals feel valued, supported, and empowered to thrive. I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to contribute to Carewest’s mission of delivering exceptional care. 🙏

Wrapping up an incredible experience at the EUPHA - European Public Health Association Conference in #Lisbon! 🇵🇹 💡 Reflections from the conference: -Many sessions focused on #AI and the #EHDS, consistently highlighting the importance of #trust. But what concrete actions are we taking to build it? -Acknowledging the need for #transparency and #communication is essential, but how can we implement these principles effectively? Awareness is the first step, implementation must follow. 🙋♀️ With my research, I aim to #bridge the #gap, providing #actionable #guidance to health policy professionals to foster public trust in health data sharing initiatives. - Oral Presentation: How can we simplify the complex concept of trust for digital health students and policymakers? Thanks to #ASPHER for the opportunity to present our #TACTAnalysisCanvas -Poster Walk: In Switzerland, delays in implementing the Patienten Dossier initiative have eroded public trust. We propose a #SistineChapel of digital health stakeholders to align interests, avoid implementation delays, and rebuild trust. -Poster Display: Who in the health policy process is responsible for building public trust in health data sharing? Insights from #63Interviews across the EU, Italy, France, and Switzerland reveal trust is often perceived as a #vague concept. Policymakers need actionable guidance to integrate trust-building into their work. Meeting colleagues from across Europe in person - some for the first time after years of online collaboration - was a true highlight. A bittersweet moment was missing the chance to reconnect with George Valiotis, who introduced me to health policy during my first internship at EHMA - European Health Management Association in the early days of COVID. Thank you to everyone who made this conference so impactful. Until next time! 🍀 #EPH2024

Meet this month’s employee spotlight, Oliver! 👋 Oliver is our Health Sciences Advancement Officer and joined the Curtin Advancement team last year to help bring many of our wonderful health sciences projects to life. We caught up with Oliver to learn more about some of the projects he is currently working on. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐡𝐲? I love how every day is so different, whether it’s the work I’m doing or the people I meet. Engaging with those who are directly impacted by what Advancement does, even the most mundane tasks feel like a meaningful piece of the bigger picture. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐞𝐱𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐲𝐨𝐮’𝐫𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐧 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐧𝐨𝐰? Many exciting things are happening in Health Sciences at the moment! I’m starting to plan Curtin’s booth for this year’s Telethon Family Festival. It will be my first time managing it, but I have a wealth of experience to draw upon. I volunteered last year shortly after I started at Curtin, and it was wonderful to interact with families involved in some of Curtin’s wonderful research projects. I’m looking forward to putting my own spin on it this year! 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐟𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤? I’m very much into rock climbing. I’m actually petrified of heights so I started climbing as a way to face that fear, but I grew to really love the physicality of it and the problem-solving. It’s so much fun bringing new people into the sport and watch them crush it, especially when they initially doubt their abilities. I’m proud to say that I’ve roped in a few coworkers and love seeing them reach new heights (puns intended!). 🧗 Want to learn more about Health Sciences alumni opportunities? In the past two years of my #CareerAtBOA, I have understood that adaptability is not only the capability to respond to forthcoming changes but to get what those changes entail. The need to keep progressing, adjusting to both the norms and emerging trends of the financial sphere has been compelling. Meaning, that whether incorporating new technology, the market is changing, or the clients have different requests, I observed that one cannot be successful without flexibility and being proactive. It is this ability to adapt that has enabled me to contribute meaningfully. My #CareerAtBOA Lesson 2/24 - Adaptability is Key #2YearAnniversary #CareerReflection
