I’ve officially jumped on the #LinkedInRewind bandwagon! ✨ This year, I chose to post less, focusing instead on listening, learning, and connecting more deeply. My biggest takeaway? True success, I’ve found, is measured by the difference we make in people’s lives. Here are three moments that reflect that mission: 1️⃣ Joining Summit2 as VP of Marketing & Communications Since July, I’ve had the privilege of working alongside an incredible team, stepping back to examine the bigger picture—challenging the status quo, bringing greater purpose and intention to how we approach our work, and refining how we reach, engage, and deliver value to our audiences. This has been a journey of driving alignment with organizational goals while creating meaningful impact. 2️⃣ Launching and co-leading an OCD Parent & Caregiver Peer Support Group with the remarkable Nanette Shroff and Julie MacDonald, Ph.D. Mental health advocacy became a mission, helping families find community, empathy, and support. 3️⃣ Celebrating Organizational Achievements From CBBC Career College training 1 in every 3 newly certified CCAs in Nova Scotia and seeing ~800 graduates walk across the stage into high-demand roles in the local workforce, to Willis College earning full accreditation for our Massage Therapy program and hosting the recent Canadian Dental Plan anniversary announcement, the past six months have been filled with milestones that showcase the power of teamwork and innovation. Reach Out is the backbone for Health Workforce Development in the Inland Empire. In a recent keynote speech, Diana discussed each individual program. Here, we wanted to offer a holistic view of all the efforts being made in this realm (and the places you, your business, and your grant dollars can get involved!) 1. The White Coat Program - one-week intensive learning for high school students interested in health fields 2. Work-based Learning - takes many forms and gives learners a broad sense of work they may be interested in. Includes internships and shadowing, and includes a track for educators charged with running health pathways programs. 3. The Health Professions Conference - allows high school students to experience an adult-style, full-day conference that exposes them to a wide swath of potential health care fields 4. The Public Health Leadership Consortium - Driving collaboration between all universities in the IE with public health degree programs and local public health offices to focus on workforce development 5. Community Health Worker training - offering certification for those interested in helping their local communities by becoming a bridge between available resources and individual citizens or communities. This is being taught through our recently certified Pacific Empire College. A few weeks ago, we released the first Inland Empire Public Health Workforce report, and one of our posts received a lot of engagement, both from those expressing agreement that public health is an area that needs more focus to fill the increasing workforce shortage and those concerned that there is already plenty of interest but not enough open positions. One of the big needs we see in this realm - at least in our region here in California's Inland Empire - is better alignment between practical public health curriculum and actual market needs, and this is something we have been actively working to help improve through our consortium of public health departments and officials (the leaders who sponsored and created the report). 👉 One of the key findings in the report - which highlighted shortages but also suggested an actionable plan to address these - was the need for a regional Academic Health Department, something that would actively work to align current needs with current training, to ensure those emerging from our public health training programs are equipped with the exact skill sets needed most in the market today. Other efforts Reach Out makes to help create a pipeline to help fill this gap include: work-based learning programs, internships with partners, our annual Health Professions Conference for high school students, training CHWs through our Pacific Empire College, and offering trainings for various health certifications. A Transparent Reflection as We Enter 2025 ✨: As the clock strikes 2025, I can’t help but reflect on how far I’ve come already—not just in achievements but in proving to myself and others that I am capable of so much more than they ever believed. There were times when the doubts of others echoed louder than my own confidence. Whether it was questioning if I could balance rigorous studies, leadership roles, and personal challenges, or doubting my ability to achieve my dreams in healthcare and beyond, I heard it all. But I didn’t let the doubt define me. I let it fuel me to become better. This past year, I’ve: - Grown as a leader and professional on campus throughout my various roles such as serving as a Resident Assistant of Eppse Hall, Executive VP of the TSU Student Nursing Association, Historian of Sisters In Different Shoes, and much more. - Focused on impactful goals and visions like achieving high grade point averages while still having a work-life balance, taking a different route and now being an aspirant in Public Health, and truly pursuing what my heart desires. - Made strides toward fulfilling a dream that once seemed out of reach through opportunities such as my fall internship with HealthStream and presenting research on Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). To anyone reading this who feels underestimated or overlooked: Keep going. You don’t owe anyone your success—but when you achieve it, let it remind you of your strength. 🌟 Proud to Share My Capstone Project for Carewest! 🌟 I had the privilege of completing a capstone project with Carewest Innovative Health Care, focusing on one of the most pressing challenges in healthcare today: recruiting and retaining occupational therapists (OTs). 💡 The Challenge Canada is facing a critical shortage of healthcare professionals, including OTs, which is impacting patient care and organizational stability. My goal was to develop actionable strategies that align with Carewest’s strategic objectives, including organizational growth, financial sustainability, and workforce development. 🔍 What I Did ✔️ Conducted a comprehensive analysis of turnover data, workforce trends, and systemic challenges. ✔️ Engaged with stakeholders through interviews and surveys to understand barriers and opportunities for improvement. ✔️ Applied systems thinking to identify solutions that address the root causes of recruitment and retention challenges. 📄 The Outcome The project culminated in a detailed report featuring: ✔️ Clear and actionable recommendations for recruitment and retention. ✔️ Updated job postings tailored to attract top OT talent. ✔️ Career development pathways designed to enhance professional growth and long-term engagement. ✨ Why This Matters This work is not just about filling positions—it’s about creating an environment where healthcare professionals feel valued, supported, and empowered to thrive. I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to contribute to Carewest’s mission of delivering exceptional care. 🙏

Initial Impressions: It's a great program that aligns with my practicum requirement for MPH. I was researching many internship programs that will help me develop public health skills. Impact on Career: Public Health 360 embodies a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary approach to public health that recognizes the interconnectedness of various factors influencing health and well-being. Looking forward to taking part in The Open University’s Elevate Equity event next Wednesday, 22 May. I’ll be sharing the insights and experience gained through EY Foundation’s work with employers to build a more diverse workforce and harness young talent.   Given the findings of a recent report from The Open University, which detailed that: 📊 46% of employers struggle to recruit young people, and 53% have trouble retaining them 📊 54% of organizations lack specific initiatives or programmes for employees under 25, exacerbating the skills gap 📊 58% of leaders report a skills mismatch, with declines in soft (54%) and technical skills (55%) among young workers There is clearly more that can be done to bring both sides of the labour market together, to the benefit of both young people and employers, making discussions like these and the action that is taken off the back of them all the more important. Here's how I navigate this transition: 💡 Clearing the Slate: Before diving into PhD Week, I ensure that all pending business and office commitments are wrapped up or delegated. This creates mental space and allows me to fully immerse myself in the world of academia without distractions. 💡 Setting Clear Boundaries: Establishing boundaries is key to balancing the transition. I communicate to colleagues and clients about my dedicated learning week well in advance, setting clear expectations for my availability and response times. 💡 Time Management: With the absence of daily business tasks, I allocate specific blocks of time for focused PhD learning. Effective time management ensures that I make the most out of every moment. 💡 Embracing Flexibility: While structure is important, I also embrace flexibility during PhD Week. This freedom fosters creativity and enhances the learning experience. 💡 Maintaining Balance: Even during a week dedicated to PhD learning, it's important to maintain a sense of balance. I incorporate breaks for relaxation, exercise, and social interaction to recharge my mind and prevent burnout. By clearing the slate, setting boundaries, managing time effectively, embracing flexibility, and maintaining balance, I navigate this transition with confidence and focus.
