🌱 Excited to share that I've completed the "Mental Health First Aid" course! 🌟 In my work life, health plays an important role. But while we often focus on the physical aspect of health, the importance of mental health should not be underestimated. Gladly, my employer Roche recognized that it’s vital to support mental health and fosters awareness of programs like the Mental Health First Aid training. By completing this course, I am well equipped to support my environment as well as myself. Mental health at work isn't a separate issue – it's integral to our overall well-being. Wow… what a whirlwind week it’s been! I would just like to say a really heartfelt thank you to everyone who has supported us and reached out since we announced the official launch of IAMH - International Advocate for Mental Health, your enthusiasm and encouragement has been truly amazing. It’s Mental Health Awareness week this week. Positive mental health encompasses so many different elements, it’s different for everyone. For me, being out in nature, grounding techniques, staying physically active, eating well, giving to others, having goals and being around others who lift me; glass half full kinda people and people who can make me belly laugh! I also believe that employment is a therapeutic tool to positive wellbeing if in the right role, with the right employer. Work is important for me, as it is for most. Having a job role with security, meaningful, and doing something I’m passionate about. Not everybody is so fortunate to be in that position, for an infinite number of reasons! If you know somebody out of work, or who is really unhappy in their current job, who is thinking about options, doesn’t know what to do, or what they can do and would benefit from some support - please direct them to Opportunity Sheffield - Sheffield City Council for a chat about how we could support them take steps towards meaningful employment!

During #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek it's significant, now more than ever, to remember that mental health first aid is just as important as physical first aid, and that people should speak out when they need support. That's why, at Connect Health, we’ve invested in training over 20 colleagues to become Mental Health First Aiders (MHFA) through MHFA England. Our network of MHFAs compliment the range of other tools we have in place through our 'Boost' healthy workplace programme, which supports the mental health and wellbeing of our wonderful colleagues. Mental Health First Aiders are trained volunteers who act as a first point of contact for anyone who is experiencing a mental health issue or emotional distress, of a work-related or personal nature. These interactions can range from having an initial conversation, to supporting and signposting individuals to get appropriate support. Becky Robson, Chief People Officer, shares: "Mental Health First Aiders in the workplace serve as compassionate guides, fostering a supportive environment where individuals feel heard and valued. Mental Health Awareness Week is drawing to a close. It's a good time to reflect on how we support our staff. We have 8 mental health first aiders -  our teams know who they are and how they can support them. It’s part of our commitment to looking after our people and they are integral to our culture. It’s important in any sector but particularly in manufacturing which ranks in the bottom 10% of UK industries for wellbeing. Our director Sean Smith said: “Looking after our colleagues’ wellbeing has always been high on our agenda. “Our mental health first aiders are a key part of that - from the shopfloor to the directors there is someone our team can go to. “Everyone needs someone to talk to at times, knowing that our MHFAs are there means that colleagues have instant access to someone trained to support them when they do.” #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek
