It’s been our pleasure to uplift some members of our #TitleX provider networks across CA and HI during #NationalHealthCenter week. In our final post for the week, we are excited to spotlight Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest (PPPSW) and their dedication to the youth in their community 🙌🌟 PPPSW’s mission is to ensure broad public access to sexual and reproductive health care through direct service, education, and advocacy. With the support of Title X funding, PPSW ensures that their community has access to essential health care services. In 2023, PPPSW gave educational presentations to 7,500 youth in their four-county region, providing presentations in schools and other settings. PPPSW reached young people through their Peer Advocacy groups and attended community and campus events to provide resources and information on sexual and reproductive health services. Additionally, PPPSW provided information and resources to 12,000 youth at health fairs and reached 1,008,305 youth through educational posts on social media related to sexual and reproductive health. Thank you for all you to do support youth health and wellness, and for being a valued member of our #TitleX provider network, Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest 🫶✨ #TitleXStrong

Today, we kicked off our week with an interactive and informative session by Suparna A. in our Monday Meeting. In the session, Suparna shared key insights from a recent International Initiative for Impact Evaluation (3ie) workshop on Evidence Gap Maps (EGMs). The workshop, titled "Why and How to Create Evidence Gap Maps (Using the Example of the Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) EGM)," provided valuable guidance on the creation and application of EGMs. The session offered a comprehensive overview of EGMs, emphasizing their importance and the insights that 'gaps' can reveal about the existing evidence and research synthesis on various topics. Discussions included examples of EGMs from the 3ie database and explored some research questions for a potential in-house EGM on responsive caregiving. The proposed research questions focused on: a) identifying the types of available evidence on responsive caregiving, b) examining interventions and outcomes related to responsive caregiving, and c) identifying possible evidence and synthesis gaps in the space. The interactive nature of the session encouraged discussions on the potential uses of EGMs, identifying blind spots, and exploring how EGMs can be utilized to formulate research questions. 📚 👩💼 #EvidenceGapMaps #EGM #ResearchInsights #ImpactEvaluation #3ieWorkshop #ResearchSynthesis #ResponsiveCaregiving #SRHR #EvidenceBasedResearch #InteractiveSession #ProfessionalDevelopment #ResearchCommunity #DataDrivenDecisions #FutureResearch #KnowledgeSharing

Accessing sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services in Australia's regional, rural, and remote areas presents complex challenges. To better understand these challenges, we are undertaking a two-part research project with Deakin Rural Health to identify gaps, highlight inequities, and inform strategic planning and advocacy efforts. The first part of this project is now complete. We conducted a systematic review of over 2000 articles to investigate the barriers and facilitators to access essential SRH services in Australia's regional, rural, and remote areas. The second part of our project is mapping sexual and reproductive health services in the Barwon South West region. The significance of this research lies in its potential to highlight the systemic barriers and address the pressing need for equitable access to SRH services in regional, rural, and remote areas. #WHSN #WomensHealth #WomensHealthServicesVIC #GenderWiseSavesLives #HealthyBudget4Women

📰Jeffrey Klausner, MD, Awarded Funding from Open Philanthropy Towards Improving Sexual and Reproductive Health in Low-Resource Settings 💡Over the last 2 years, Klausner, has received four gifts from Open Philanthropy towards his research on the prevention and control of infectious diseases centering on sexual and reproductive health in low- and middle- income countries. 🌎With the ongoing global syphilis crisis, Klausner has dedicated his research towards interventions that have a practical and direct application to communities with the greatest need. 🤰Klausner’s first gift from Open Philanthropy was devoted towards gaining a better understanding of why STI infections lead to poor birthing outcomes; research that is crucial to advancing knowledge to inform better diagnostic tests to prevent preterm birth delivery. 🔍The second gift was dedicated towards the control and prevention of syphilis in low resource settings. By conducting research in underrepresented regions of the world, Klausner is promoting health equity by ensuring global representation in research. ✅ Read more about his research mission and his dedication to building the evidence base to address health challenges and improve health care in low-resource settings. #USC #publichealth #populationhealth #graduateprogram #faculty #research #syphilis #pretermbirth #maternalhealth https://lnkd.in/g7B_5SFP

Lessons Learned from SRHR Summit 1.0 - World Contraception Day 2024: Addressing Stigma and Improving Access to Reproductive Health Services (Part 2) During the SRHR Summit 1.0, I gained key insights on how stigma impacts access to reproductive health services, particularly for young girls. Here are the main takeaways: 1. Addressing Stigma is Crucial: Tackling the stigma around reproductive health is vital for improving access to care. Encouraging open discussions can help dispel misconceptions and empower individuals to seek the services they need. 2. Recognizing Individual Stories: Every individual’s experience is unique, especially for young girls who face societal pressures and personal challenges. Listening to their stories is critical for developing effective support systems and interventions. 3. Importance of Comprehensive Education: Providing thorough sexual and reproductive health education empowers young people to make informed decisions. Education plays a key role in dispelling myths and promoting healthier behaviours. 4. Community Engagement Matters: Engaging community leaders, healthcare providers, and families creates a supportive environment for change. This fosters healthier attitudes toward reproductive health and increases service access. 5. Advocacy for Rights: Advocacy for the rights of young girls and marginalized groups is essential for fostering a more equitable society. Empowering individuals to understand and assert their rights can lead to significant improvements in health outcomes. 6. Building Support Networks: Creating support networks for young girls offers them resources and guidance to navigate challenges. These networks provide safe spaces for discussion, support, and healing. #Tobasewo #SRHRSummit #ReproductiveHealth #GirlsRights #CommunityAdvocacy #WorldContraceptionDay2024 #WCD2024

I am incredibly honored to chair Planned Parenthood of Michigan's Detroit Choice Event this year. I am posting this on LinkedIn, a business site, because reproductive health and access to contraception are business issues. I hope you will consider joining me as a sponsor for the event and attending on May 14th if you're in the Detroit area. A few facts to consider*: Fully one-third of wage gains women have made since the 1960s are a result of access to oral contraceptives; Being able to get the pill before age 21 has been found to be the most influential factor in enabling women in college to stay in college; Access to birth control has led to more college-educated women pursuing advanced degrees. Women now comprise more than 50% of medical and law school classes; Access to subsidized contraception reduces child poverty in the short run and adult poverty a generation later; and Every dollar spent on contraception saves more than $7 of public spending due to unwanted pregnancies For more than 100 years, Planned Parenthood has promoted a common-sense approach to sexual and reproductive health and well-being based on respect for each individual's right to make informed, independent decisions about sex, health, and family planning. Its mission is to be a leading provider of non-judgmental, high-quality sexual and reproductive health care and education, a committed community partner in advancing equity, and a fierce advocate for access to health care for all. *sources: Institute for Women’s Policy Research, the Joint Economic Committee, Planned Parenthood Hillary LeVasseur Noreen Paholak Paula Thornton Greear (She/Her/Hers)
