Everyone needs reliable transportation—but transportation remains a challenge for older adults, adults with disabilities, and caregivers. Through our Master Plan for Aging for the Inland Empire, we’re working to find solutions—including improved public transportation, medical transportation, and help for Alzheimer’s patients who can no longer drive. Specific recommendations include: > Research which senior centers do not currently have a bus and connect them with funding resources. > Encourage health care facilities to promote and advertise public transportation alternatives for older and disabled adults. > Advocate for free or subsidized rides for older adults and adults with disabilities on public transit. Want to learn more about our recommendations to help the aging and disabled in the Inland Empire community? Exclusive: New laws to push people with disability into nursing homes Rick Morton August 10, 2024. The Saturday Paper. There will be more articles like this one, which is only based on the unrevised and incomplete exposure draft released last December, until the actual proposed new laws are finally introduced into the federal parliament. Disability advocates have every reason to be concerned. So do advocates for the appropriate provision of residential aged care. But can we keep our distress or anger until we are able to see to what degree Government and Department have responded to consultation and advice on a number of key contested issues? The first annual report from the Acting Inspector-General for Aged Care declared last week that ‘it is critical that there be no further delay’ to the legislative process. Is it too much to hope that this might actually get moving in this current parliamentary sitting fortnight? Dr John Davis I sent this letter to The Saturday Paper after reading the current edition yesterday. But today I can see from the notice paper of the federal parliamentary sitting for this coming week starting tomorrow, Aged Care reform is yet again not listed. To say that this is disappointing is a vast understatement. What on earth is going on? A lot of people and stakeholders are feeling very let down, including some of our most vulnerable and at risk older Australians. And those who care for and support them. There must be a Government response. The time is up. #agedcarereform #newAgedCareAct #CouncilOfEldersAgedCare #AnikaWellsMP #HelenHainesMP #MarkButlerMP
