Such an honour to attend the lunch organised by MEP Niels Fuglsang, on how to accelerate #heating and #cooling decarbonisation!    This is not just a climate imperative, but also concrete solutions to reduce energy prices and strengthen the EU's security of supply: two challenges clearly identified by the Draghi report as a top priority.   The EU is lucky to have home-grown clean heating and cooling solutions (such as #districtheating and #heatpumps) -and plenty of available renewable and clean heat sources (#geothermal, #solarthermal, #excessheat ...).   The heating and cooling plans mandated by the #EED & other #Fitfor55' requirements on building performance and clean heat uptake are laying the ground for the EU clean heating and cooling transition, yet we need more action to: 📍 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲: a more proactive and systematic approach to developing renewable and clean heat projects, and deploying essential infrastructures such as district heating and cooling. The more we use locally, the less we import! 🏡𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀: simplifying the consumer journey, reducing the financial and administrative burden. #Affordablehousing also means easy access to #buildingrenovation and #cleanheat solutions! Five #districtheating projects are taking shape around the #UnitedKingdom, and are expected to bring #heat to 𝟭𝟳,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬, #businesses, and #public buildings and save over 𝟯𝟴𝟱,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗢𝟮. 😱 Benefiting from £57 million from the 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗡𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗙𝘂𝗻𝗱 (𝗚𝗛𝗡𝗙) 💪 , these networks will make it possible to tap into the #local, #renewable and #wasteheat sources available, contributing to the goal of #clean energy by 2030 and making it possible to lower #energy #bills.🙌 💬 Ken Hunnisett, Programme Director, sums it up nicely: “The Green Heat Network Fund…has helped to prove the technical and commercial efficacy of district heating in a variety of different use cases. The projects announced today are a reminder that modern heat networks are at their brilliant best in our large, densely built towns and cities.” 🔧 #Financing is an essential tool to achieve net zero while ensuring efficient and safe clean heating and cooling for citizens, and projects like these are proof of it. 🚀 However, more must be done to fulfil DHC's enormous potential- projections set sector funding needs at £80 billion for decarbonisation.
