About a month ago, I started my new role at Klimate.co and what a month it has been 🙌 I've landed in a team of both brilliant and passionate people, and I'm excited to be learning from them what it really takes to reverse climate change. What are removals, and why do we need them? 🤔 My brilliant co-founder Katja does an amazing job of explaining what removals are and what we do here at Klimate.co in this great video below. To this day, there's still a misunderstanding of how to implement 'offsets,' that it is somehow a replacement to real reductions. Of course, some companies in the past (and now 👀) have used it in such ways but let's also not forget that these were generally based on avoidance-type credits. With the new industry of carbon removal, things are a bit different. There's an increased scrutiny towards quality and monitoring, to name a couple of factors. However, there's also a growing understanding that the more we reduce, the less we'll have to remove and given our status on reductions, we can't wait to until 2050 to start removing simply because there's a whole lot of emissions that are being released today that can't be dismissed and we need to scale this market right now.
