Silence in the workplace can be deafening, but speaking up can be liberating. Zora Neale Hurston's poignant words, 'If you are silent about your pain, they'll kill you and say you enjoyed it,' serve as a stark reminder of the importance of voicing our concerns and discomforts in any professional setting, especially during Black History Month. Keeping quiet about issues at work not only perpetuates harmful dynamics but can also lead to personal detriment. It's crucial to advocate for ourselves and our well-being, even if it means confronting uncomfortable truths. Let's honor Hurston's legacy by creating a culture where open communication is valued, and everyone feels empowered to speak their truth. #BlackHistoryMonth #WorkplaceCulture #SpeakUp #ZoraNealeHurston

Helping Black and Brown women shift the trajectory of their careers by strengthening their emotional intelligence and establishing executive presence.
What fuels my passion for helping Black and Brown women get ahead in the workplace? Because I know what it's like. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't get ahead. Repeatedly, I was told that I would never be a Vice President. BUT... When I discovered that I had control over my own journey despite the sexual harassment, discrimination, and microaggressions I encountered, everything changed. And I realized that I had the power all along! Executive Presence was the key to getting myself to the top. And I'd be damned if I didn't share this knowledge with other Black and Brown women. My focus, my goal, is to get women who look like me out of their self-limiting beliefs. It's time to wake up! ⏰ So here it is - The Being Conference. It's your wake-up call to the connection between owning your greatness and finally seeing the professional progress you deserve. The Being Conference is all about authentically shifting and growing. In this immersive 2-day hands-on, intimate, and in-person experience, you'll discover how to boost your career by establishing Executive Presence and strengthening your emotional intelligence. I can't wait to show you the secret to achieving success despite adversity. Let me show you how to prove the naysayers wrong and reach your professional goals.

Equity-Centered Culture Cultivator | Expert in Training and Development | Fostering Wholeness and Safety through Enneagram Integration, Antiracist Practice, and Embodiment
The more I do the work I do, the more I remain convinced and convicted that the unsuccessful efforts at diversity didn’t work because they lacked the necessary embodiment work to recalibrate the nervous systems of people with hierarchal power and social power (privilege). Having to try to not act racist puts people on edge and steals from their executive function. Embodiment work helps change the system so you no longer uphold racist ideology as the norm. It helps discern between true threats and challenges to comfort or privilege (when you have unexamined privilege, you often cannot tell the difference) so you can make better judgments and use your energy for the work that matters. Diversity has amazing positive impacts on businesses and organizations, but most don’t really know how to optimize what’s right in front of them, in their recruitment processes, onboarding, or day-to-day support. No matter what the field, if embodiment work isn’t being done, changes will stay on the surface level and continue to harm the minorities you seek to be a part of your organization. Better or worse, corporate or not, it comes back to the body. I’m excited to be working on something to support organizations who are TRULY committed (who want to move beyond a diversity statement or whatever unfulfilled promises made after George Floyd was murdered) to change. Stay tuned!!

The Power of Representation Representation matters. The underrepresentation of Black individuals in leadership roles perpetuates a cycle of non-inclusivity and lack of awareness. A mere 3.2% of executive or senior-level positions are held by Black professionals, a glaring disparity that undermines the effectiveness of diversity and inclusion initiatives. "Diversity is being invited to the party; inclusion is being asked to dance," says Vernā Myers, VP of Inclusion Strategy at Netflix. Organizations must actively elevate Black voices in decision-making roles to dismantle systemic barriers. This includes implementing mentorship programs and leadership development initiatives and ensuring diverse perspectives are present at the table. Dive into our blog post, "Unmasking the Barriers: The Journey of Black Americans with Disabilities in the Workplace" Part 2 of 5, https://lnkd.in/g73x_ZYr At Baker Consulting, we understand the complexities of creating accessible and inclusive workplaces. Our READI2B framework is designed to help organizations navigate this journey with empathy, courage, and strategic vision. We work closely with businesses to assess their current practices, identify areas for improvement, and develop comprehensive plans that prioritize the needs of marginalized communities, including Black Americans with disabilities.
