Let's reflect on three inspiring days at #CLIACruiseWeek in Genoa:   A keynote address from CLIA | Cruise Lines International Association's Jason Liberty's on the cruise sector's value proposition and TUI's Wybcke Meier's panel contributions on cruise guests' attitudes towards #sustainability and #awareness point in the direction of Téthys Naval and #ComfortManagement: our products and services for the cruise sector were launched at exactly the right time.   The Response Capability and Situational Awareness Training, based on general risk analyses and safety assessments in maritime tourism regions, common ports of call and typical behaviour patterns, is a significant resource for the preparation and predictability of #CruiseComfort. https://lnkd.in/dBmwyTR8   We were delighted to see and to discuss our topics with - among others - Silversea Cruises, Royal Caribbean Group, Windstar Cruises, AIDA Cruises, MSC Cruises, with Fratelli Cosulich Group and Blue Water Shipping, with World Ocean Council, Ocean Exchange and CNN. Recently, the growth of tourism in #Greece has gathered significant attention, particularly concerning the islands of Santorini and Mykonos. ⚓ In our meeting with the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy of Greece Mr. Christos Stylianides, we were pleased to inform the Minister about our proactive engagement with local authorities to enhance cruise tourism practices and develop sustainable tourism strategies for these islands. This includes the commitment by CLIA cruise lines to uphold the daily cruise cap of 8,000 passengers in Santorini and our support of the local efforts to establish a berth allocation system in Mykonos, a priority for ports experiencing high levels of cruise traffic. 💡Considering that 57% of cruise tourism in Greece is concentrated in Piraeus, Santorini, and Mykonos, we also discussed with the Minister and the Secretary General of the Aegean and Insular Policy, Mr. Manolis Koutoulakis, the potential for expanding to new destinations elsewhere in Greece. We were pleased to confirm the strong interest of cruise companies in enriching their itineraries with additional Greek destinations given the vast range of opportunities on offer. #MSCCruises and the Finnish shipyard #MeyerTurku have entered negotiations to develop a new generation of mega cruise ships. The recent trend towards larger vessels has led the #Aponte group to collaborate with the Finnish shipyard for the first time, as Fincantieri and Chantiers de l'Atlantique have recently frozen the latest orders from Carnival, NorwegianCruiseLine, and RoyalCaribbean. If the deal is finalized, the project will involve designing a class of ships exceeding 250,000 tons, surpassing the #IconoftheSeas, currently the world's largest ship at 248,000 tons. Construction could begin in 2028. Regarding the layout, one possibility is that the design will be based on the #NEcOLEAP project, a visionary concept for a zero-emission mega ship presented by the Meyer Group at the recent #SeatradeCruiseGlobal in #Miami. This collaboration marks a promising step forward for #MSCCruises, showcasing their commitment to innovation and sustainability. The potential to create the world's largest and most environmentally friendly cruise ship opens up exciting new possibilities for the future of maritime travel. I couldn't resist peering back into a sector I knew well and formulating a few perspectives on the state of river cruise play in 2023. Here's my take 👇 ✅ The Autumn 2023 River Cruise Industry Survey revealed significant growth in passenger numbers across key river cruise destinations, with Australia/New Zealand experiencing a 200% increase. ✅ Key source markets like America/Canada, the UK and Ireland, and Australia/New Zealand significantly impacted the business success of river cruise operators this year. ❌ Challenges include staff bottlenecks, inflation, and environmental issues. ✅ Stakeholders in and along the rivers on land suggest improved communication among themselves, quality-focused service provision, and environmental sustainability measures as key areas to improve upon. ✅ The survey highlights a thriving market with potential for further expansion, but addressing challenges and implementing optimisation strategies is crucial for continued success. GRIMALDI’S GREAT CASABLANCA NAMED   🎊 Just few days after the delivery of her sister ship, on 25 April a new ceremony was held at HD Hyundai Mipo Co., Ltd. shipyard in #Ulsan (#SouthKorea) for the naming of the Great Casablanca.   🛳 She is the fifth of six multipurpose ro-ro units belonging to the innovative "G5" class: the G5-class ships are able to transport 4,700 linear metres of rolling freight, 2,500 CEU (Car Equivalent Units) and 2,000 TEU (Twenty Foot Equivalent Units).
