Great GTM Roundtable in NYC yesterday - thank you for the invite Dr. Desiree-Jessica Pely & Jason Patel 😀 Topics most GTM teams struggle with: 1) How to create urgency >>> define the "pain" & cost of inaction 2) Budget & CFO approval >>> build ROI projections + understand budget cycles when moving upmarket. We talked extensively about presenting and measuring ROI - particularly with Dave Govan. We're both big believers in delivering an analysis projection based on customer data or "ROI Calculator"...especially for mid-market & enterprise deals that expand past the purchasing authority of a single stakeholder. Conversely, ROI projections are often seen as "fluffy". This is a very easy trap to fall into if: 1) missing your business input metrics (deliver X%, other clients see Y#) 2) missing customer inputs (number of X, % of Y, etc) 3) you're attempting to measure "soft" benefits ("better" can't go into an excel formula😀) I've shared ROI calculators without the "full picture". This is where credibility goes to die. But, when used properly, an ROI template allows for more discovery, large deals and less surprises for all: 1) Use other stakeholders in the org to gather metrics and build the story for execs 2) Use the math to further align on success criteria and expected metrics 3) DQ an opportunity if you think the margins are too thin for you or your customer. I've gotten to this point and realized the juice is just not worth the squeeze. Doing the math can often surprise you and save you from a project that will fail regardless of effort. 4) Use the ROI sheet as a "carrot" to get the CFO in the room to review, validate and verify. Ideally it's 100% filled out and they are simply giving you the greenlight as you read over it with them line by line....foaming at the mouth over the multi-factor return they should expect to see even with conservative inputs. I'm going to be rebuilding our ROI calculator for ServiceBell to help solidify the value proposition....would love any and all feedback!

We started 2023 by building GTM. We're starting 2024 by revisiting GTM. In the past year, we gathered so many valuable insights, shipped stellar product, and got to work closely with amazing customers. Now is the time to put these insights to work. Here is how we're thinking about Default's GTM for 2024: 1. Optimize baseline. After a few great quarters, we know what works so most of my time will be spent on making improvements: ICPs, positioning, pricing, packaging, and distribution will be at the top of my list. 2. Big bets. The goal is to focus the remaining resources on projects that have a chance to 10x our baseline. I'll be experimenting on a few of the large calculated bets that could really either help us go 2x faster or will yield nothing. Exciting times ahead.
