Rescuing 120,000 lbs a month in un-sellable food and redistributing it to those who need it most is the headline, but underneath is a community of charities, volunteers, organizers, and climate action champions who have successfully broken down silos to create a net of solutions for this problem. What causes hunger? And how is hunger linked to 'sustainability'? The climate crisis is contributing to extreme weather e.g., flooding and drought, destroying homes, crops and decreasing food production - contributing to food insecurity, undernutrition and hunger. 🌎 To put it into context, globally, almost 1 in 10 people go to bed hungry every night. Yesterday, I had the pleasure of joining Action Against Hunger UK, on behalf of Future Food Movement, at their celebratory evening where I met inspiring changemakers and heard their astounding work of helping +20 million people in 50+ countries - working to create a world free of hunger. Remember, sustainability isn't 'just' about carbon emissions. Climate change touches all areas of life - where we live, how we travel, what we eat. If you engage with the world, this work is for you. You have an important role. 💚 Local citizen engagement is vital. Strong citizen support puts pressure on community leaders to enact measures benefiting climate, health, and quality of life. 🌱 Implementing climate solutions is about more than just the climate. Climate solutions create healthier, more equitable communities with economic opportunities in the clean energy economy.
