Only one more day until the first ever FoodxClimate #meetup #mingle at UCLA - Hershey Hall (inner courtyard) in partnership with the Rothman Family Institue for Food Studies to kick off what will be the most #brat #laclimateweek. If you are in #losangeles and you haven’t signed up yet - then don’t wait another second !! https://lu.ma/ds8rzobj - 👈🏼👈🏼👈🏼👈🏼👈🏼 register here This is for you if you care deeply about the #intersection of #foodsystems and the #climatecrisis. This #intersection is one of the most critical yet underserved areas of the climate fight (current estimates suggest that we can do everything else right on climate and still lose if we don’t sufficiently #decarbonizefoodsystems). FoodxClimate is a #nonprofit working to highlight the #foodsystem as our most difficult climate problem. We hope that this will be the first of many events that we host in #la Henrik Bennetsen Dr. Lara Ramdin 🇬🇧 #climatechange #foodsystem #futureoffood #sustainability #sustainablefood #climate

58% of food produced in Canada is wasted. Listen to Carla Pellegrini, Executive Director at Food Stash Foundation to learn some unexpected tips on what you can do about it. I can't tell you all how incredible it has been to see the progression of this organization. Rescuing 120,000 lbs a month in un-sellable food and redistributing it to those who need it most is the headline, but underneath is a community of charities, volunteers, organizers, and climate action champions who have successfully broken down silos to create a net of solutions for this problem. But Carla's message is clear, just because Food Stash, Vancouver Food Runners FoodMesh and partners are there doing the hard work, it doesn't let us as consumers off the hook. Watch Carla for quick tips on what you can do to be part of the solution. - take a photo of your fridge and pantry before you go to the grocery store - create an "eat first" section in the fridge - buy produce with character 🥕

Sustainability | Engagement | Impact | Leading collaborative relationships to maximise environmental & social impact
What causes hunger? And how is hunger linked to 'sustainability'? The climate crisis is contributing to extreme weather e.g., flooding and drought, destroying homes, crops and decreasing food production - contributing to food insecurity, undernutrition and hunger. 🌎 To put it into context, globally, almost 1 in 10 people go to bed hungry every night. Yesterday, I had the pleasure of joining Action Against Hunger UK, on behalf of Future Food Movement, at their celebratory evening where I met inspiring changemakers and heard their astounding work of helping +20 million people in 50+ countries - working to create a world free of hunger. Remember, sustainability isn't 'just' about carbon emissions. It is complex, interconnected and, as highlighted from yesterday's event, can only be effectively tackled when we work together. 💚 #sustainability #climatecrisis #climateaction #hunger #foodinsecurity #collaboration

Is the way we talk about climate change leading people to disengage? 🌍 Many climate action campaigns rely on fear, anger, and anxiety to spark immediate action. But is this constant exposure to doom-and-gloom messaging about our planet’s future causing people to tune out entirely? 🙉 In our latest blog article, we delve into the potential benefits and risks of shifting the climate action narrative toward optimism and hope, and consider whether stories of progress and solutions will inspire audiences to help build a better world. 🌱 🌟 Curious to learn more? There is no debating that climate change is impacting global health. "The END Fund is facilitating one of the largest public-private-philanthropic partnerships in global health. By pooling philanthropic capital with drug donations in support of national and community health programmes, we are able to treat hundreds of millions of people annually, advancing disease elimination, improving school attendance and boosting economic productivity. Seeking an equitable policy agenda and urgent global climate response, we support the leadership of communities whose health is most at risk by climate change yet contribute least to its causes." - Sam Mayer, Vice President, Global Strategic Partnerships, The END Fund Read more in the World Economic Forum's blog about what the END Fund is doing to combat climate change's health impacts. https://bit.ly/3XDUhme

Here are 3 things we learned about #climatechange from speaking with Abigail McHugh-Grifa, the Executive Director of the Climate Solutions Accelerator of the Genesee-Finger Lakes Region (CSA): 🌍 Everyone has a role in implementing #climatesolutions. Climate change touches all areas of life - where we live, how we travel, what we eat. If you engage with the world, this work is for you. You have an important role. 💚 Local citizen engagement is vital. Strong citizen support puts pressure on community leaders to enact measures benefiting climate, health, and quality of life. 🌱 Implementing climate solutions is about more than just the climate. Climate solutions create healthier, more equitable communities with economic opportunities in the clean energy economy. By taking a "multi-solving" approach, we can proactively transition in a way that benefits us all, rather than reacting to disasters. https://lnkd.in/eQJytaJ8

The connection between food and climate change has never been clearer. When surplus food goes to waste, it doesn't just disappear—it decomposes and releases methane, a greenhouse gas that warms the air a whopping 80 times faster than carbon dioxide. But here's the good news: we have the power to turn this around. By redistributing fresh food to communities in need, we create a convenient and sustainable option for farmers and significantly reduce harmful emissions. With each load of rescued food, we're answering the global call to action to combat climate change and end hunger in our lifetime. This Earth Month, we're making our biggest climate impact yet. For the entire month of April, every dollar donated through our website will go directly towards rescuing potatoes. We’ve already delivered potatoes to 19 states across two countries- and that’s just a fraction of the hundreds of millions we can save with your help. Right now, through the generosity of a an anonymous donor, all donations are matched. Meaning everything is doubled. Just $25 can rescue 1,000 potatoes. If you're passionate about making a tangible difference in the fight against climate change, sponsoring some spuds is a simple yet powerful way to do so. For Earth Month. Save potatoes. Feed people. Combat climate change.

#Opinion Despite the growing evidence on the impact of climate change, we see limited CSR and philanthropic investments integrating a climate lens. But this is crucial to ensure that their interventions are resilient and relevant in a warming world.
