Thanks a lot Sean Carroll for the opportunity to talk on my very first podcast. Of course about that what passions me: energy democracy and how citizen cooperatives can be a costfree tool for a more just transition. Why and if this energy transition is needed is a question of science. Politics should be limited to how. Mixing these two is a deliberate strategy to underutilise the decentralised nature of renewable technology, to keep energy and power clustered.

Today, I had the privilege of listening to John Podesta, Senior Advisor to the President for International Climate Policy, speak at Third Way as he marked the second anniversary of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). The IRA represents the largest investment in climate and clean energy in American history. During the event, I learned about the numerous state-level programs available to help make homes more energy-efficient. Curious about what your state offers? Check out how you can benefit from these energy efficiency programs here and explore the resources available through the Inflation Reduction Act here: Energy Efficiency Programs by State: https://lnkd.in/e2Y8XP_N Inflation Reduction Act Resources: https://lnkd.in/ejDefCyM

Recent U.S. legislation and appropriations have created a paradigm shift in the policy landscape for clean energy and climate technologies. They have more than doubled the federal resources dedicated to promoting climate pollution; moved more towards carrots than regulatory sticks; and focused on domestic content and production rather than free trade policy principles. You can read more about this in Energy Strategy Reviews (coauthored with Georgia Tech School of Public Policy PhD student Niraj Palsule and alumnus Jeff Hubbs): https://lnkd.in/eFTGSaGk This rapid paradigm shift underscores the need for expedited energy system analysis and forecasting. We develop an innovative approach that enables timely updates by deploying a combination of modeling and expert consultations. Applying this to a case study, we estimate that this the U.S. policy shift could enable Georgia’s emissions to drop by 49% (a 2019 estimate) to 57% (updated estimate) in 2030 relative to 2005. Utility-scale solar and electric cars are significant contributors. Nature-based and behavioral solutions, on the other hand, are likely to fall short of prior expectations, but their technical and long-term potentials remain robust. All 20 of Drawdown Georgia's climate solutions remain pivotal.
