Each year, National Public Health Week, held on the first week of April, celebrates the vital contributions of public health and addresses critical issues essential for enhancing the well-being of our nation. It underscores the fact that public health extends far beyond healthcare. On the final day of NPHW, we turn our gaze towards the Future of Public Health. This day offers a poignant opportunity to contemplate the transformative potential that lies ahead. The landscape of public health is evolving, demanding a fresh approach grounded in fairness, inclusivity, and community empowerment. Our aspiration should be to foster communities that actively shape their health destinies, where barriers to well-being are not merely addressed but dismantled. As individuals, we wield the power to advocate for policies prioritizing community well-being and to educate others about public health issues. Engaging as public health advocates enables us to contribute to initiatives promoting health equity, ensuring everyone has access to the support and care essential for a healthier life. Communities are pivotal in making health information accessible and championing good public health policies. By disseminating resources in multiple languages and advocating for policies tailored to local needs, communities can spearhead proactive measures to improve health outcomes and address systemic issues like racism exacerbating health disparities. Governments at all levels must invest in a robust public health infrastructure. Prioritizing sustained funding for community organizations and health departments is essential to uphold critical public health initiatives. Engaging stakeholders from diverse sectors, including healthcare, business, and education, is crucial to fostering partnerships capable of addressing root causes of health inequities and advancing the well-being of all individuals. As we gaze into the future, let us embrace a vision of equity, inclusivity, and community empowerment as our guiding principles. With determination, compassion, and a shared commitment to health equity, we can forge a future where every individual thrives. By taking action today, we lay the foundation for a healthier, more equitable world for generations to come. #NPHW #NationalPublicHealthWeek #FutureofPublicHealth #HealthEquity #CommunityEmpowerment

This week we celebrate both #HealthEquityWeek and #NationalPublicHealthWeek, a time to reaffirm Connecticut’s commitment to eliminating health inequities and recognize the contributions of public health professionals to improve the health of people and communities across the state. Connecticut hospitals are committed to changing the systems that have contributed to health disparities and addressing public health challenges. Across Connecticut, hospitals are focused on delivering exceptional, high-quality care within and beyond hospital walls, focusing on challenging and changing the underlying factors that drive inequities in healthcare and focusing on collaborating with local partners to improve the health of communities. They are working to remove barriers to access and affordability, they are addressing health-related social needs, and they are engaging through CHA in statewide work, such as the Diaper Connections program and the implementation of a Statewide Maternal Health Strategy. All of these efforts aim to drive regional transformative change in #communityhealth, care delivery, and #healthequity. We have a long road ahead of us to continue working to make the entire healthcare system in our state and our nation more equitable and accessible. CHA is committed to continued collaboration to achieve this shared goal. There are growing parallels between local government devolution and integrated care systems, in terms of a genuine and shared interest in geography, place, role, purpose and outcomes. Leaders are now actively asking how they can work together to best serve their populations. In many parts of the country, local devolution arrangements are already an integral part of an ICS. With these building blocks already in place, the challenge is to understand the commonality in reforms, and further develop the relationships between NHS and local government partners to better understand and use their collective value. This report, from NHS Confederation, sets out a phased, three-stage approach to ensure this new vision for health and devolution becomes a reality. These three steps include: focusing on people and the places where they live and work; supporting populations to improve their own health; and recognising that everything has an impact on health. For each of these steps, the report sets out the context, findings, national recommendations, local priorities and illustrative case studies.
