This is such an elaborate summary of the progress of the Poland 🇵🇱 #nuclear power programmme.

This $1.8 billion recommissioning of an 805 MW nuclear reactor in Michigan looks like a very cost-effective choice. Building new nuclear plants is prohibitively expensive - at least if you're in a country where the necessary expertise and supply chains have atrophied due to going decades with hardly any new build, and where regulatory burden causes construction to take 10 years or even more. Keeping existing nuclear facilities alive dodges most of those issues. If the baseline lifespan (per regulations in the US) is 40 years, but plants can be extended to 60 years, or even 80 years in this case - what's stopping the renovation from taking their lifespan to 100 years, or even longer? #nuclearpower

#Georgia Power’s #Vogtle nuclear power plant’s expansion (units 3 & 4) is now complete with unit 4 coming online 4/29/2024. This is a great achievement for Georgia Power and Westinghouse as approximately 2 million homes around the Augusta, GA area can be powered through low-cost, emission-free generation. Although the expansion should be celebrated, delays (7 years) and cost over-runs ($17B) can’t be ignored. Because of the magnitude of this project and short fallings with project execution, confidence in US nuclear has been damaged and unrealized risks for future projects will have to be assessed before these projects are green-lit. #NuclearPower #VogtlePowerPlant #Georgia #EnergyConsultant #InfinityPowerPartners

On November 10, 75 US-based companies and universities sent a letter to the Senate and House Appropriations Committees, urging an increase in fusion energy funding. Failure to consider fusion growth and the inevitable replacement of fission with fusion would seem wiser at COP28 UAE and WNE and discuss world fusion developments and deployment, As much as fission tries to greenwash its waste, it is like plastic and crude and other fossil fuels that will eventually work their way into our lives and our babies' lives of the future, it poisons the world, like smoking. Let us not increase the toxic radioactive waste that only 32 countries out of 195 of the world will ever get nuclear fission and nuclear weapons. They lie about commerciality The world should take note before committing further fission build. Mammoet, in collaboration with Orano USA, achieved a milestone in the decommissioning of the Crystal River Unit 3 nuclear reactor in Florida. The project involved the extraction of the 540-tonne reactor vessel (RV) using an innovative process called ‘optimized segmentation.’ Unlike traditional methods that require up to 80 transports for segmented reactor parts, this approach divides the internals underwater based on radioactivity categories (A, B, C, GTCC), optimizing waste repacking. #heavylifting #heavytransport #nuclearreactor #florida #usa
