The Open Rivers Programme offers grants to support projects that lead to the removal of small dams and the restoration of river flow and biodiversity. The creation of the Open Rivers Programme was informed by two years of research and stakeholder engagement which revealed that there are around one million dams fragmenting European rivers and that there is much potential and need for dam removal. The Open Rivers Programme next call for category A and B dam removal grants is 29 October 2024. 🌱 There is a significant gap between the finance currently directed to biodiversity, and the finance required to conserve and restore biodiversity. But Plan Vivo Foundation is tackling this imbalance. It has launched a new standard for biodiversity called PV Nature. The new standard is fully aligned with the high integrity principles developed by Plan Vivo, Fauna & Flora and Flora and one of our flagship project developers, Carbon Tanzania. Designed to scale up funding to conservation, the new biodiversity standard is now live and open for applications (see link in comments below). Once certified, projects will generate Plan Vivo Biodiversity Certificates (PVBCs). These do not work like carbon credits – PVBCs incentivise nature positivity. They are intended to encourage landowners to conserve and restore the world’s precious natural habitats.
