Workers trust your leadership more if you "Walk The Talk." For example, a great safety leader personally models proper PPE wearing and other safety protocols. 🤔HOW TO SET UP GOOD SAFETY LEADERSHIP⁉️ Here are five steps for Building Safety Leadership: ✅1.SET CLEAR VISON & OBJECTIVES 🎯 ✅2. FORM STEERING TEAM 👨🚒👩🔧👨🏭 Set up your support team from varying departments, including the executive manager, operations, finance, maintenance, HR, etc. ✅3. COMMUNICATION WITH TEAM MEMBERS 📢🔊 Listen closely when talking with them, take their recommendations seriously, and invest in them. ✅4. MEET REGULARLY 📅 Regular meetings allow for safety issues to be discussed and solved on time. ✅5. ACTION & ACTION 🎬 Take massive actions, execute the ideas, and continue to bring the culture of Safety to everyone in the organization. Developing HSSE at Nynas AB Åsa Falk is Group HSSE Director (health, safety, security, and environment) at Nynäs, a role that she started as an Executive Interim Manager. Nynäs is a world-leading supplier of long-lasting, high performance specialty products that protect and bind, lubricate, dissolve, cool, and insulate. We met Åsa to hear more about her role and assignment: Can you tell us about your assignment at Nynäs? “It had been a gap in this function for a year and now they wanted to show the importance of HSSE and move it up in the organization, our CEO was very engaged in the work. As an Executive Interim Manager, you land running and start delivering from the first day. My interim assignment has now turned to a permanent role with the task to analyse the organization to see what we do well and what we need to develop. It contains a lot of planning, and it is very complex to implement, but now we have the results and can start the work. My role also includes to set the plan going forward, prioritize, and set the short- and long-time strategy. The safety issues include protected objects (fuel), and everything from safety in the refineries to preventing work overload and stress in the offices. The whole company must think of health and safety. It is easy to forget the people working in the office and focus on production. The risks at the production sites are very important, but it is not the whole business.” Why did Nynäs chose to engage an Executive Interim Manager? ”Nynäs needed a fast solution as the team was in urgent need of a leader. As an interim, you can, based on your experiences, start delivering results and secure leadership at once. I’m used to be in situations of chaos and just solve it piece by piece. TDSG celebrated Safety Month with a Focus on Leadership for E.S.G. Excellence. TDSG goal is to maintain Safety Standard for Zero Incident. Motto of our company "Safety First, Quality Must" is imbibed in the culture of the company. Without the active contribution of our employees, this goal cannot be achieved, we thank all the employees of the TDSG to support us in building the culture of Safety and Quality. In March 2024, TDSG marked Safety Month with the theme “Focus on Safety Leadership for E.S.G. Excellence” (E.S.G- Environment, Social, and Governance). The month-long celebration commenced with an Official flag hoisting ceremony for the National Safety Campaign and the Safety Pledge was taken by the employees. Every employee received a Safety Badge, fostering a sense of belongingness to safety within the organization. Throughout the month, various activities were organized to promote healthy competition and enhance safety awareness, Material Handling Training for employees, Safety Quiz for employees on safety protocols, Safety Kaizen: Innovative safety ideas for implementation, Safety Poster Competition: Employees designed safety-themed posters, Safety Skit Play: Engaging skits for safety practices and precautions. The Safety Month concluded with high spirits as employees actively participated in these events. At Lesaffre, we care about people. That’s why we strive for excellence when it comes to protecting the health and safety of our employees. Agrauxine by Lesaffre teams are highly committed to contributing to improve the safety culture within the group 🤝 Late January, our QSHE specialists attended an internal seminar with other members of the group to share Lesaffre’s safety program, orientations and best practices. Over last year, 21 managers of Agrauxine by Lesaffre have also followed internal safety management trainings - introduction to safety inspections. The objective of these trainings is to have committed and convinced managers who lead by example and make safety a priority at Agrauxine while striving towards zero accidents. Recognising Commitment to Safety: Celebrating the Everyday Heroes I am humbled to share that I’ve been honoured with a Safety Award by our Operations Director. As Safety Managers, our role often involves ensuring compliance and overseeing guidelines that many consider a fundamental part of our job descriptions. However, this recognition is a reminder of something much larger—the power of acknowledging not just the outcomes but the everyday commitment to safety. This award isn’t just for me; it reflects the collective efforts of our team who prioritise safety every single day. It underscores an essential principle: Recognising good behaviours is as crucial as achieving good outcomes. By celebrating the steps we take towards creating a safer environment, we reinforce the importance of these actions and encourage a continuous culture of safety. I believe that recognising the diligent work of individuals and teams serves as a catalyst for continued excellence and commitment. Let’s keep acknowledging the efforts that often go unnoticed but are vital in maintaining and enhancing our safety standards. To my peers in safety, let’s continue to lead by example, reward the behaviours that matter, and strive for not just compliance, but genuine safety leadership.
