As Jo says, pushing these frontiers is what the IPA Effectiveness Awards does so well. If you've a WARC account, here are a few of my personal favourites... 📣 New perspectives: having started in media in December 2006 with vague aspirations of becoming a strategist, seeing a media agency like MEC (now Wavemaker UK) pick up a Grand Prix for Morrison's in 2009 (https://lnkd.in/dRScvJDG) was properly inspiring. It was a succesful brand idea, from inside the customer experience out - and it was delivered by a team of people busy resetting the role media agencies could play for their clients. It remains a remarkable achievement by (amongst others) Stuart Sullivan-Martin, Ann Wixley, Verica Djurdjevic, Sarah Heyworth - and an example that remains all too isolated. 📖 New sources: if you'd never thought about strategy outside of advertising best practice, you might never have thought to switch into an entirely new category or use-case - but that's what Ovaltine won Gold for in 2011, and then Bailey's achieved at the end of the decade (https://lnkd.in/dAAaEzr6). (A tip of the cap on that last one to - amongst others - Craig Mawdsley, Bridget Angear, Katie Mackay-Sinclair, Sheila Cunningham.) 👋 New opportunities: here I could mention M&C Saatchi London & MG OMD's harnessing of modern audience data and targeting techniques to successfully launch the 2021 Census but my favourite remains VCCP's ground-breaking sponsorship of the O2 for, well... O2 (https://lnkd.in/d8eRKYee). To this day, there are few better examples of a brand leveraging a new partner so deeply and distinctively, to so genuinely infiltrate popular culture and generate mutual value. (Hats off to Andrew Perkins and the team in SW1.) I could list out hundreds more, but you get the idea - without these bold leaps forward, we'd be infinitely poorer as an industry. But there's still so much we don't know, so many people we've not heard from, so many tactics unproven or opportunities not taken. So cast your net wide for 2024 - it'll be worth it.
