January is National Human Trafficking Prevention Month and we are committed to working with partners around the region to end this heinous crime. The Asia Foundation and USAID are working with local partners to counter trafficking in persons in five Pacific Island Countries: Fiji, Papua New Guinea, the Republic of Marshall Islands, Tonga, and Palau. The program works through multisectoral partnerships with Pacific Island Country stakeholders, with a focus on local capacity building and maximizing program impact and sustainability. The initiative supports the four pillars of countering trafficking in persons work (Prevention, Protection, Prosecution, and Partnership), grounded in a community-centred partnership approach that strengthens local strategies, interventions, and mechanisms to prevent TIP, ensuring sustainable, victim-centred protection approaches and bringing traffickers to justice. Today, we feature a photo from the launch of the Kingdom of Tonga’s National Action Plan to Counter Trafficking in Persons and Protect Vulnerable Migrants held on November 20, 2023. In her keynote speech, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Fekita Katoa ‘Utoikamanu, said the development of the National Action Plan is result of collaboration between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the technical working group comprising representatives from various government ministries and civil society. She also acknowledged the support from development partners, the International Organization for Migration and The Asia Foundation, in shepherding the finalization and launch of the National Action Plan, respectively. Over January, we will feature messages from our government and civil society partners on the roles they play in combatting human trafficking in their respective countries. #HumanTraffickingAwareness #EndModernSlavery #HumanRights #AntiTrafficking #PreventHumanTrafficking # HumanTraffickingPreventionMonth #asia_foundation #usaid #pacificislands

🚨Urgent action is needed to stop Trafficking in Persons (TIP) across our continent 🌍, especially in the Eastern, Horn of Africa, and Western regions. Victims, many of whom are women and children, endure unimaginable suffering and abuse. The complexity of illegal #trafficking networks demands a unified and robust strategy. The African Union's new policy on TIP offers a comprehensive framework to guide member states in addressing TIP. With coordinated efforts and harmonized approaches, we can reshape #migration #governance and make a significant impact. 📥: https://lnkd.in/dZcsE-Ym

Why is it important to include women in #peace and #security efforts? How can young women from the MENA region and North Africa contribute to peacebuilding in their communities? How does illegal arms trafficking impact the safety and stability of communities in the MENA region? What role can advocacy play in combating the illegal transfer of small arms? More and more we will answer during in our workshop This workshop is organized by the International Humanitarian Law and Youth Initiative in collaboration with The International Action Network on Small Arms (IANSA) and is supported by UNSCAR. Our objectives align with those of the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA) and IANSA, focusing on empowering young women from across the MENA region. 🇺🇦 Two years on: your support is still protecting people from exploitation. There have been more than 28 million border crossings from #Ukraine into Europe since Feb 24 2022. Experts warned rates of #trafficking would increase as a result. 📈 IJM immediately got to work, arriving at the border with Ukraine within 24 hours, and spearheading work to support refugees, raise awareness, and help protect people from trafficking. Since then, thanks to your support, we’ve provided over 5,000 specialist support services to refugees who might otherwise have been exploited. From securing short-term accommodation and safe transport for families to helping women approached with suspicious job or housing offers – we’ve been on the frontlines stopping trafficking ❌ Today, the brutal war rages on. 🙏🏼 🙏🏾 We hope for peace, but we cannot stop anti-trafficking efforts now as women and children remain at risk. By standing with us, you're supporting the vital work of protecting displaced people in Europe - and stopping trafficking in Europe and beyond. Visit IJMUK.org/europe now to learn more.
