I had the privilege to discuss climate justice from a more-than-human perspective and touched on the importance of integrating a gender lens into climate finance strategies. I believe that by recognizing the interconnectedness of all life forms and ecosystems on our planet, we can address the disproportionate impacts of climate change on marginalized genders and ensure inclusivity and equity in climate solutions for all beings. Thank you to the Society of Gender Professionals for the insightful dialogue and the opportunity to contribute to this crucial conversation. Let's continue working together towards a more just and sustainable future for all. #ClimateJustice #GenderEquality #ClimateFinance
#SGP Gender and Climate Justice Circle held an inter-disciplinary knowledge co-creation session that explored intersections of indigeneity, the pros and cons of cultural contexts that unraveled caste-systemic oppression in terms of inter-species (how narratives around animals can have casteist undertones in particular cultural contexts) climate injustice to the much needed urgency for women-led indigenous stewardship across communities across the globe for biodiversity conservation. Furthermore, our speakers added to these dimensions: Tania Roa, MSc spotlighted the earth, feminine energy and self care for collective care through her interactive presentation, thereby generating amplified self-awareness among all. #EcoFeminism Irma Nugrahanti discussed multispecies justice and gender-responsive climate finance to prevent greenwashing. Parimala Sharma discussed the one health perspective from a veterinarian's vantage point to break out of our sectoral silos Dhanya Rajagopal moderated the session seamlessly with her intersectional questions. For all those who engaged with the discussions throughout, we are highly grateful!

Our take on the outcomes of the biodiversity COP in Cali: there was a lot of energy and clarity from grass roots communities, movements and science, but once again negotiations fell far short of what is needed. Time is running out! The pathway ahead is very clear: phasing out fossil fuels, safeguarding critical ecosystems as no-go zones for extractivism, protecting earth defenders and the territories of indigenous, afro-descendant and peasant communities, and strengthening the rights of nature. We need to find a way to make politicians follow the scientific consensus, and social movement mandates: the time is now! https://amwt.ch/~16oj

🌿 Indigenous Knowledge: The Missing Piece in Global Climate and Biodiversity Solutions 🌍 In a world grappling with biodiversity loss and escalating climate challenges, one truth stands out: we cannot solve these crises without centering indigenous governance and environmental management. From the Amazon to Aotearoa, indigenous communities have long been the stewards of the Earth, safeguarding ecosystems through deeply rooted knowledge systems and practices. Yet, their voices are often sidelined in mainstream environmental strategies. This is why I’m thrilled to announce that I’m developing an online course on biocultural monitoring, set to launch in mid-January! Why Now? Recent global discussions—whether at COP28, the UN Biodiversity Summit, or local policy debates—have emphasized the urgency of integrating indigenous knowledge into governance frameworks. Just this month, reports highlighted how biodiversity hotspots under indigenous management fare better in resilience and recovery. What the Course Offers: Through this course, I’ll teach you how to: ✅ Design monitoring programs that integrate indigenous values and modern science. ✅ Use cultural indicators to assess ecosystem health and climate impacts. ✅ Apply real-world tools for biodiversity protection and climate resilience. This is more than a course—it’s a call to action. Together, we can champion approaches that honor cultural heritage while protecting the planet. 📅 Launch Date: Mid-January 2025 🌐 Who It’s For: Environmental leaders, policymakers, academics, and anyone committed to sustainable futures. 🧡 Support Indigenous-Led Solutions: If this resonates with you, let’s start a conversation. How can indigenous governance transform your approach to sustainability? Comment below or DM me for updates! Let’s build a movement for biocultural resilience—together. #ClimateResilience #Biodiversity #IndigenousKnowledge #SustainabilityLeadership #BioculturalMonitoring #CourseLaunch
