Powerful Women can do anything when we find our passion. Live a life chasing your dream with a career you love
Born in 1910, Margaret Dunning learned to drive at age 8 and happened to live next door to Henry Ford where her love of cars blossomed. Her prized possession? A 1930 Packard Roadster. She studied for two years at the University of Michigan but was forced to drop out at the height of the Great Depression when her family needed help to keep the family business afloat. During World War II, Margaret volunteered in Plymouth’s Red Cross motor pool, driving a truck. From 1962 to 1984, Margaret served on the board of Community Federal Credit Union, including 19 years as president. Under her leadership, the Credit Union increased its assets from $1 million to $40 million. She challenged the status quo in male-dominated industries her entire life. Margaret passed away just before her 105th birthday. She changed her own oil and spark plugs until the very end. “I love the old cars,” she once said. “I love the smell of gasoline. It runs in my veins.” What an incredible life she lead!

Today, we reflect on the extraordinary resilience of Black people in the face of systemic injustice, exemplified by the last known survivors of the Tulsa Race Massacre. They have once again challenged the Oklahoma High Court's decision, demanding recognition and rectification for one of America's gravest sins. The Tulsa Race Massacre, a horrific event in 1921, decimated a thriving Black community and left deep scars. Yet, nearly a century later, the survivors continue to fight tirelessly for justice. This battle is not just about historical acknowledgment but about holding those in power accountable for the lasting impacts of racial violence. Their courage highlights the relentless struggle Black people endure to seek truth, justice, and reparations. It's a poignant reminder of the work that remains to dismantle systemic racism and build a future rooted in equity and healing. Let's honor their legacy by amplifying their voices and standing in solidarity with their quest for justice. The fight for equality continues, and we all have a role to play. #TulsaRaceMassacre #JusticeForTulsa #BlackLivesMatter #ReparationsNow

To celebrate National Funeral Director and Mortician Recognition Day, #OGR caught up with members to chat about why they are so passionate for #FuneralService. Today, we talked to Geri Oliverie from Oliverie Funeral Home in Manchester, New Jersey: What made you become a funeral director? The social aspect, the gathering is so important to me. We all weave a thread in others’ life quilts. It’s nice to see the completed quilt and pay your respects to a life well lived. What is your greatest reward for being a funeral director? Growing as a compassionate person and helping others. Being a part of something larger and more important than me. Giving my family an example to help others.
