13%... the 5-year survival rate for pancreatic cancer has improved to 13%. This is a 1% increase from last year, marking the second year in a row of a 1% increase. Seeing this number presents a lot of mixed emotions. While it might sound like a small step, that is over 650 lives saved year-over-year. It is a step in the right direction and a sign of hope. We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone pushing in the same direction to save lives. However, we are nowhere near satisfied. There is so much more to be done in order to create a world without pancreatic cancer and we will continue to fight every single day. This is no April Fools, we are excited to announce a $200,000 match program for pediatric cancer research in collaboration with the Rally Foundation for Childhood Cancer Research for the month of April! Did you know many cancer drugs are in use to treat pediatric cancer patients, but only five drugs are specifically developed or approved for children with certain types of cancer? The lack of development of pediatric cancer drugs forces oncologists to use adult cancer drugs to treat their young patients. This approach can be harmful to the patients and, in some cases, have long-term side effects. More support and more research are needed to provide those diagnosed with childhood cancer with better survival outcomes and less harmful treatments. Every dollar NFCR raises to improve treatment options for childhood cancers will have double the impact from now through the end of April, thanks to the Rally Foundation.
