We proudly support community projects at our Stratford community hub, the Lighthouse and Gardens. We have provided discounted rates and over 1,200 hours of free use since we opened in 2022. From Singing for Breathing classes to the East Village Chess Club, each individual, group, and practitioner brings a uniquely beneficial offering to local residents and visitors. Recent highlights include supporting Soul Purpose 360 CIC for Black Women’s Networking Circles, hosting the NHS Rehabilitation team for away days and serving as the starting point for the Cycle Sisters cycling tour to Cambridge! We are also pleased that the garden continues to be an educational space for children and young people, with two local nurseries now making weekly visits to the garden to give little ones important access to nature. These are just a few things happening at the Lighthouse and Gardens, with many more passing through its doors week in and week out. Each initiative reflects our commitment to supporting this vibrant, growing, and engaged community. Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey so far.

Talk about giving back to the community… I always think about the long-term effects of what we do. It might not seem like anything special from the outside… Flooring or painting doesn’t sound too glamorous but when you think about the bigger picture, it’s just as important as any other service. Looking at the hotels we recently worked in… That work will be more appreciated by their customers than anyone else. It helps make their experience much more enjoyable and in return, the business keeps going. Even more recently we did work on a YMCA building. Now that’s the ultimate example of seeing this concept in real-time. These buildings are all about community… it’s their sole purpose! Every inch of work we do is going to benefit every member of the community who walks in the door. If we do a bad job? It can have a huge effect on them. There’s no tougher criticism than what you’ll get from a community that sees its lifelong YMCA building change overnight. The pressure is on in those jobs! These recent scenarios made me think of the effects every other job we do has on the wider community. Whether it’s… Real Food Pharmaceutical Manufacturing We might only serve them but they serve the community and if we can make their jobs easier or more enjoyable by improving their work environment… It has an impact on everything they do!

"My job is to move hearts" - that's what I told a community partner in our meeting to explore collaboration. Some people's job is to move needles, i.e. what they do has greater environmental impact, usually through implementing technology, equipment changes, or funding large scale infrastructure projects. My job is to move hearts. We support community projects that usually have smaller environmental benefits and can't really move the needle. We encourage ground-up initiatives and support individuals, non-profit organisations and grassroots with funding. We change mindsets, one at a time. It's slower but necessary. In the long run, moving hearts can lead to moving needles, when small initiatives and organisations scale up over time and achieve greater environmental impact. When moving hearts lead to more people taking action and shifting towards more sustainable practices, we are moving needles. Moving hearts or moving needles, we all play a part. What's your job? "No! That is mine. You buy yours," snapped a mere 4-year-old child, her words echoing with surprising rudeness. 🥀 I've recently noticed a disturbing trend: the loss of innocence in children. 🥀 There's an unsettling increase in rudeness, selfishness, and a general lack of empathy in their behavior. 🥀 There are many possible reasons for this shift, such as living self-centered lives, excessive screen time, and a lack of real social interaction. 🥀 However, there's one powerful antidote that can ground us and our children, helping us rediscover the importance of social connections, people, and gratitude: 🎯 Community Service. 🥀 Encouraging children to engage in community service can introduce them to a world of social causes and foster a sense of empathy and responsibility. 🥀 The long-term impact on their lives is profound, helping them grow into compassionate, aware, and socially responsible individuals. 🥀 This isn't just beneficial for children—adults can greatly benefit from community service as well. ⁉ How often do you find yourself giving back to the community through service?

4 Steps to Selflessness Selflessness is an outstanding human attribute, yet many of us struggle to embody it. Fortunately, there are simple steps we can take to cultivate this quality in our lives. Firstly, we can start by decluttering our homes and letting go of things we no longer need. This exercise can help us develop a mindset of detachment and generosity. Secondly, we can look to nature for inspiration. The sun, stars, flowers, trees, and rivers all give selflessly without expecting anything in return. By emulating their example, we can learn to be more giving and less self-centered. Thirdly, volunteering our time and skills to help others can be a powerful way to cultivate selflessness. Community service encourages us to look beyond our own needs and connect with others in a meaningful way. Finally, we can use selflessness as a tool to overcome our own pain and dissatisfaction. When we focus on helping others, we gain perspective on our own blessings and become more grateful for what we have. By following these four simple steps, we can all become more selfless and make a positive impact on the world around us.

Community is Key in building whatever kind of project. Building a strong and engaged community around your mission is crucial. Encourage open dialogue, collaboration, and knowledge sharing. Address Concerns and Skepticism: Openly address concerns and scepticism about what you are building, highlighting its potential benefits and addressing potential risks. Celebrate Successes: Share success stories of projects impacting communities to inspire others and demonstrate the power of what you are building. By focusing on tangible solutions, building a strong community, and fostering education, you can contribute significantly to a brighter future for your generation and beyond.
