Today is Blue Monday, allegedly the most depressing day of the year. We know that this is made-up rubbish, but we do recognise that January can be difficult for some, and they struggle more with their mental health now than at other times of the year. It’s always okay not to be okay, and any opportunity for people to reach out and start a conversation has got to be a good thing. Like many organisations, we have a hybrid workforce; some work from home part of the week, some from the office, and many are out in the community, so making those connections isn’t always easy. Today has been a helpful focus for us, and a few of our managers and other volunteers visited some of our colleagues working in the community to check in and make time to talk. We’ve also held two sessions at our head office where people can drop in for a hot drink, biscuit and chat. We also know some of our teams who were working from home today held online tea breaks. Today isn’t the start of the conversation for us; it’s a continuation, as we know, whether people are feeling low or not, talking to someone is always helpful.
