Project Scope & Challenges Objective: - Replace 230 m² of original Edwardian windows and doors. - Enhance energy efficiency, insulation, and safety while preserving historical character. Challenges: - Severely deteriorated windows and doors, with rotting frames and cracked panes. - Strict compliance with listed building regulations to retain the original aesthetic. - Completing all work during summer holidays to avoid disruption. Community Initiative: As a bonus, KBH Haus refurbished an old phone box on the premises into a Mini Library volunteering time and materials to inspire a love for reading among students! Our Solution: - Bespoke Craftsmanship: Custom timber sash windows were crafted to match the Edwardian style, ensuring historical integrity. - Planning Compliance: Managed all applications for listed building renovations. - Sustainability Focus: Energy-efficient materials reduce heating costs, lower emissions, and boost building sustainability. - Streamlined Installation: Completed installation of 55 windows and 9 doors during summer break to avoid interruptions. Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University is advancing plans for a 500-bed residence hall, designed to align with the campus's traditional aesthetic while incorporating modern features. The facility will replace the former Gibbs Hall and Paddyfote Complex and maintain the Georgian brick style of nearby halls. Estimated at $60 million, the four-story mixed-use building will include retail and office spaces alongside state-of-the-art living and learning amenities. This initiative complements FAMU’s ongoing construction of Venom Landing, a 700-bed modern residence hall set to open in fall 2025. The Vision: To accommodate Seymour Community Schools' expanding needs, we’ve embarked on significant upgrades to the Fifth & Sixth Grade Center. These enhancements provide much-needed relief to the Elementary and Junior High Schools. What’s New? • Space Infill: Courtyards are enclosed to maximize space while offering shelter during storms. • New Facilities: Addition of dedicated music instruction spaces, a new gym, kitchen, and cafeteria—addressing the previous combined gym/cafeteria layout. • Renovations: Transforming the existing gym/cafeteria into a modern administration suite with a secured entrance and a new media center. • Traffic Flow: Enhanced separation of bus, car, and pedestrian traffic to improve safety and reduce conflicts. Dartmouth College undergraduates are now living, studying and socializing in transformed residence halls in East Wheelock House. Our team--Harriman, Sasaki, Gale Associates, Inc., North Branch Construction and Thornton Tomasetti--upgraded accessibility, life safety, building systems and interior spaces at Andres Hall, Zimmerman Hall, and Brace Commons, East Wheelock's social center. The buildings meet standards for LEED Gold and are designed to be compatible with Dartmouth’s shift from oil-fueled steam to geo-exchange hot-water heating and cooling. The renovations are part of the college's plan to revitalize 60% of on-campus student residences over the next decade. Designed by Architecture Research Office (ARO), these groundbreaking schools—part of the Alloy Block mixed-use development—set a new standard for energy efficiency, comfort, and resilience in education. Consuming less than a third of the energy of a typical NYC public school, this project highlights the power of Passive House principles in creating healthy, high-performance spaces for learning. Drawings have been submitted for a new building at THE NEW BLENDWORTH CENTRE LIMITED The Centre is based near to Horndean and is a day provision for people aged over 19 with varying degrees of learning difficulties and disabilities. Within the Centre grounds there is a small nursery outlet with many polytunnels and potting sheds which facilitates the service users activities. The users are responsible for many tasks including seed sowing, plant cuttings, potting on, cleaning stock and generally keeping the nursery and its display areas clean and tidy. The end products of these on-site activities can be purchased by the general public in the nursery shop. The existing buildings on site facilitate space for indoor activities; the Centre offers the opportunity for its users to join together in recreational and educational activities during the week. However these buildings are dated and not fit for purpose. The existing structures are lightweight and temporary, and while most of them have served their purpose since the Centre was established, the main administrative and indoor activity space are in poor condition and now restrict the Centre’s operation and functioning. The application seeks to outline proposals for new modern facilities, much better suited to the Centre’s needs and more sustainable to operate. The proposed building is intended to replace the two buildings on the existing site with a new central building. It will be sited more sensitively in relation to site boundaries and remaining buildings, but most importantly it will provide higher quality internal accommodation. The proposed building form consists of four, single-story linked double pitched barns. The modest forms create a strong composition of 4 gables that will greet users and customers at arrival. Each of the barns will facilitate one of the functions: changing rooms and facilities for users, multifunctional socialising, communal education and dining area, and administrative spaces and customer facilities.

Kier Construction 📣 “Steel frame commences for new secondary school We are thrilled to announce that work has started on the steel frame for the new building at Bradford Trinity Academy. Earlier this year, the Department for Education (DfE) appointed us as the main contractor for this exciting project, which includes both a new school building and refurbishment work. This week, our project team, together with staff from the school and representatives from the DfE, celebrated this milestone with a steel signing ceremony. The project involves the refurbishment of part of the school, including the demolition of two existing blocks to make way for a new 3639m² building. This new facility will feature a main hall, sports hall with changing rooms, kitchen and dining hall, art rooms, state-of-the-art design and food technology rooms, an ICT room, and ample admin and office space. Following completion, we will proceed with the large-scale demolition of the existing buildings and undertake external landscaping which will include Muga pitches for the school. “ Dan Poole, operations director for Kier Construction North & Scotland, said: “Today marks significant progress on what will be a fantastic new facility for the pupils and staff at Trinity Academy. We’re proud to once again collaborate with the DfE to create state-of-the-art educational facilities that will benefit our local communities for generations to come.”
