Part of the ongoing lessons I’ve learned lately is the importance of empowering your team and stepping up together. A few years ago, right after the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, I had the privilege of working under an exceptional senior project manager. He had this remarkable ability to lead with clarity and support the growth of everyone around him. When he unexpectedly had to step away due to personal reasons, he asked me to lead the team through the final stages of a critical residential development, involving high-end luxury apartments. At that point, we were 70% through the project, and the remaining 30% involved intricate luxury finishes and upgrades—areas where many on the team, including myself, were stepping into new territory. I quickly realized that this was an opportunity not just for me, but for the younger team members to rise to the challenge as well. I focused on fostering collaboration, encouraging the junior members of the team to take ownership of critical tasks while providing guidance and support. Together, we worked closely with specialty contractors to meet the high standards required for luxury finishes. We also engaged with clients, handled handovers, and ensured all regulatory approvals were in place, with the team taking pride in every success along the way. In the end, the project was completed on time, exceeding client expectations. But what I’m most proud of is seeing the growth in the team—how everyone, especially the younger members, stepped up and contributed to our success. This experience reinforced that great leadership isn’t about doing it all yourself, but about creating an environment where everyone feels empowered to lead and grow. And at the end of the day, it’s these kinds of challenges that make our job so fun and rewarding. #leadership #teamwork #constructionmanagement #luxuryrealestate #youngprofessionals #mentorship #postCOVIDprojects #growthmindset #challengeaccepted

👊 The Value of Resilience and Adaptability 👊 This afternoon, I had the pleasure of catching up with Mike Vincent MIH, GM of Langdale Chase Hotel in Windermere, part of the Daniel Thwaites group. For those unfamiliar, Langdale Chase reopened its doors in November 2023 after a stunning £10 million refurbishment. It’s a masterpiece of sympathetic redevelopment, but it is not without its challenges - something that anyone in hospitality, especially in the Lake District, can relate to. Mike and I go way back, having worked together in the same company before he took over from me. Since then, he’s been tasked with leading the hotel’s reopening, a monumental task in any circumstance, let alone in today’s economic environment. Almost a year on, the progress he has demonstrated is nothing short of remarkable. What’s his secret? Resilience and adaptability. It’s one thing to manage a hotel; it’s another to revitalise a listed property while maintaining the brand's essence and elevating the guest experience. Our conversation today reinforced something: Successful leadership isn’t just about managing day-to-day operations; it’s about navigating the complexities of change, setting a vision, and inspiring your team. Mike’s journey to date at Langdale Chase is a testament to this, and I can’t wait for him to share more in an upcoming guest blog (watch this space!). It’s a tough market out there, especially in iconic and increasingly competitive destinations like the Lake District. But as Mike has shown, with the right mindset and approach, you can turn a challenge into an opportunity. It was great to catch up and exchange insights. Thanks Mike! 😀 When was the last time you embraced a major challenge and turned it into an opportunity? 🚀👇

📽 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝗟𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗻 𝗗𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗹 Throwback to our Travelodge London Docklands Central project complete last year. The project had a number of engineering challenges which was on a bombsite during the war and then it was filled with rubble from the Blitz. The project also has the A13 tunnel underneath the site. The Sisk team came up with a solution that enabled us to add value and de-risk the project for the client. Subsequently the complete hotel was handed over two months earlier than anticipated. #WeAreSisk #Hotels #Construction #Engineering #London Ger Hayes MCIOB Steven McGee Allen Westgate John Dennehy Massimiliano Crea Justin Lowe James Crosse Aidan King Travelodge Hotels Limited Chris Andrews

Happy Holidays from the Yugo Greenville Uptown and Yugo Greenville Campus Towers Family: Managing both a luxury and an essential property comes with unique challenges, but one thing remains constant: my commitment to exceptional customer service, resident satisfaction, and building relationships. At our luxury property, it’s about refined touches and elevated experiences. At our essential property, it’s about reliability, efficiency, and trust. Yet, in both spaces, one truth holds—people matter most. Whether it’s remembering a resident’s name, addressing concerns quickly, or fostering trust through clear communication, great service transcends property type. Excellence isn’t about the amenities; it’s about the relationships we build and the trust we earn…and we are doing it as a cohesive team!!

As the month end closes in and the SIG Review starts the Construction Team Building Dinner is an awaited activity, orchestrated with meticulous precision by the illustrious People Managers to go out and celebrate with the team was nothing short of a veritable symposium of camaraderie and conviviality. This soirée, a testament to their sagacious leadership, exemplifies how corporate gatherings ought to be conducted. The evening commenced with an ambiance suffused with an air of bonhomie, as colleagues, erstwhile ensconced in the quotidian rigors of construction endeavors, found themselves in a milieu conducive to the efflorescence of interpersonal bonds. The gastronomic delights, a cornucopia of culinary excellence of Mutton Rogan Josh, were but a prelude to the intellectual and emotional nourishment that ensued. The Host with their perspicacious understanding of team dynamics, curated an array of activities that were both edifying and entertaining. These engagements, designed to foster a spirit of unity and collaboration, were imbued with a sense of purpose that transcended the mere act of socialization. In summary, the SIG Construction Team Building Dinner is not merely a dinner but a transcendental experience that fortifies the sinews of teamwork and underscores the quintessence of collective endeavor. Kudos to the leadership for their visionary orchestration of an evening that shall indubitably be etched in the annals of the SIG Construction team's illustrious history. #TeamBuilding #CorporateDinner #Mumbai #Dadar

First introduction of the year, the longest standing member of the Scotland team. Regional Director John Brown. Read below to learn a little bit about Johns background and career. From Labourer to Regional Director: A Career of Growth and Excellence Starting as a site labourer for fitters, my 23-year journey to becoming Regional Director for Wagstaff in Scotland has been marked by hands-on experience, problem-solving, and a commitment to excellence. Along the way, I’ve built strong partnerships and led significant projects that define my career. Building a Career from the Ground Up I’ve grown through various roles—from labourer to fitter, site supervisor, logistics manager, and eventually Regional Sales Director in 2003. Each position taught me valuable lessons, shaping my ability to manage teams and oversee large-scale operations effectively. Collaborating with Leading Brands At Wagstaff, our partnerships with the UK’s top office furniture manufacturers have been vital in delivering high-profile projects such as Aker Solutions, Ulster University, Scottish Courts, and HMRC. These collaborations exemplify our commitment to innovation and client satisfaction. Leadership and Milestones As a leader, I focus on fostering strong relationships across our team and supply chain. A career highlight was leading Scotland to become the first Wagstaff region to surpass £5 million in turnover in 2008—a testament to strategic vision and teamwork. Lessons and Growth Mistakes, like a memorable early-career delivery mix-up, taught me the importance of attention to detail and continuous learning. These experiences fuel my passion for guiding my team and ensuring successful project delivery. Looking Ahead Reflecting on this journey, I’m excited to continue building on our successes, supporting my team, and delivering excellence for our clients. The road ahead is full of opportunities for growth and achievement. Here’s to more milestones to come!
