This June, we will open our new gallery in Basel with the first solo exhibition of Danish 19th- and early 20th-century master Vilhelm Hammershøi in Switzerland. 📍Located in the heart of Basel's old town, our new gallery space at Luftgässlein 4 occupies the ground floor of a former silk ribbon factory built in the 1880s.

At NorthernLight, our aim in designing contemporary exhibitions about historical topics is to connect the topic to the NOW. Traditional historical exhibitions quite often try to mimic the THEN for the visitors. That is why we recently introduced our vision for the ’The transhistorical space’. This correlates with recent developments in historical studies to link historical events with current and timeless developments, rather than binding them to their epoch only. That leads to a shift from an “As if you were there” to a “there is here” approach for our exhibition design. Several of our recent (and upcoming) projects embody this philosophy. Merging the Digital & Artistic, Digital Transformation | Arts & Cultural heritage, E-Learning, Art Awards across Europe author
The Venice Biennale isn't just an art exhibition - it's a cultural phenomenon! Founded in 1895, it's transformed from a national showcase to a global platform for artistic dialogue. Imagine a world where art transcends borders and ignites conversations. The Biennale has been at the forefront of this artistic evolution, pushing boundaries and showcasing groundbreaking movements. From its early days celebrating Italian art to its current status as a global platform, the Biennale has consistently challenged the status quo. Venice itself becomes a living exhibition during the Biennale. The Giardini gardens, with their permanent pavilions and the central exhibition, are the heart of the event. But thr Biennale's magic extends beyond the Giardini's! National pavilions scattered throughout the city transform historic buildings into vibrant embassies for each country's artistic spirit. Independent exhibitions, known as "collateral events," further enrich the experience, offering a diverse range of artistic expressions. Are you an art enthousiast or simply curious about this unique event? The Venice Biennale offers a transformative experience for everyone. #VeniceBiennale #ArtHistory #ContemporaryArt #CulturalExchange #Travel

Have a read of the blog I wrote on this extraordinary piece made exclusively at George Smith!
The Back-To-Back sofa is a single piece combining two Standard Arm Signature sofas, exclusively crafted by George Smith. This sofa can be traced back to the middle of the 19th century when it was commonly found in prestigious residences, as well as art galleries and museums across Britain. Proving that a statement piece can also be functional and comfortable, the Back-To-Back sofa from George Smith stands out as a timeless piece of art that will be the talk of the room. In August 2023 I joined the global Antler start-up program that helps entrepreneurs develop their business ideas at the speed of light ⚡, and provides access to pre-seed funding. One big take I had from the program was "Characteristics of a good problem to solve": 1) Painful: So painful or expensive without fixing, that potential users have a high willingness to pay. 2) Popular: Millions of people are afflicted. 3) Frequent: Users experience the problem several times per day. 4) Growing: Structurally growing potential market. 5) Urgent: This needs to be solved right now. 6) Unavoidable: The problem will still exist, despite e.g. regulatory changes. I struggled between running an idea ticking all the boxes from my experience in the logistics industry, and another idea within ART. The art idea DID NOT TICK ANY OF THE BOXES. ❌ 🤦♂️ Guess my choice of venture? Those of you who know me. Art of course... 🤗 Long story short. No VC backup at this stage, but the iteration continues. At the speed of a turtle, we are now entering step one in trying out a new concept of experiencing art... The Public Art Gallery aims to be a globally accessible physical art gallery by connecting artists, art collectors, and curated venues. Our mission: To transform selected spaces into vibrant galleries, capturing the true spirit and meaning of art. 💚 Whatever happens, I´m proud that we now collaborate and iterate with one of the largest coffee shops in the Nordics; Waynes Coffee, and one of the most recognized art galleries in the Nordics; NOA Gallery. The concept at this stage is very low-tech, manual, and hands-on 📠. Nevertheless, we have learned a lot already, and I´m looking forward to the next 999 steps before the idea looks something at the level I´d like it to be. 😁 Next time you are in Stockholm, grab a coffee at Waynes Coffee ☕☕☕, Vasagatan 40. Take a rest, experience the art 🎨 from Catarina Kent, and take a moment of self-reflection. And please send an e-mail to henrik@thepublicartgallery.com with your thoughts. Good or bad, everything is appreciated! 🙏 Thank you Robert Hedlund Gustavo Reis Lars Ragnå Mikael C. Cecilia Göthlin Catarina Kent for believing that bumblebees can fly. And to Antler and Magnus Grimeland with your team for a great learning experience! 🚀 🚀 🚀 You all rock! #art #artexhibition #waynes #stockholm #noagallery #thepublicartgallery #antler
Our very first exhibition is now up and running! In collaboration with Waynes Coffee and NOA Gallery, we showcase some exclusive art from Catarina Kent to be explored at Waynes Coffee Shop at Vasgatan 40 in Stockholm. The limited art can also be viewed and purchased online. Andre Breton In Front of the Curtain (2) To go back ten years is not only to identify, in the vortex surrounding the exhibition of ten years ago, something that fairly well expresses the spiritual climate of the year 1938, but also to identify the structure of the exhibition that corresponds to a plan, a plan that seeks to bring the tumultuous region that extends to the border between the poetic and the real into very general proximity within our psyche. The exhibition's structure, as such, can be accurately positioned in the context of the true vision of the exhibition - though, again, not the vision of art. The efforts of the exhibition organizers, in fact, tended to create, as much as possible, an environment oriented toward an "art" gallery. I emphasize the fact that they did not consciously follow any other order than the above. I emphasize the fact that they did not consciously follow any other imperative than the above, since, in retrospect, the totality of their attempts ultimately transcended their original intentions. Regarding the criticism of the time, which believed that the holding of the 1938 exhibition could be attributed, as usual, to the need to surprise and compromise the "snobbery" of the public, and which almost universally bemoaned the "gratuitousness," poverty, and bad taste of which we were more than once witnesses, we can say the following We can say the following. Thrilled to be part of this upcoming exhibition with these artists at RK Contemporary, South Africa THE DISTANCE BETWEEN There are small places in this world where artists have settled, finding where the spaces between living and creating transform into, in this case, visual artworks. Places where creatives (artists, musicians, poets, chefs and other artisans) are fortunate to be enveloped by calm and appealing environs that are conducive to creativity. With some 120 kilometres between them, covering varied landscapes from the coast moving inland, Riebeek Kasteel and Kommetjie are two such places connected by a metaphoric creative heartbeat. In describing the physicality of these two lovely places, we cannot ignore the spiritual power of the natural world, described by some as a thin place, which is where the veil between the physical and spiritual world becomes permeable and where our perspectives of the world could develop differently. Because of these beautiful places, and an idea of this aesthetic being ‘perfect’, it has to raise awareness of the opposite also being present – a place where there is so much struggle, where life is lived on the edges. However, the sense of being in a thin place can attest to the healing power of the natural world, where one could move into an in-between place, with possibility. This exhibition is a result of a concentration of people who make art, distilling an essence of where they live, continually inspired to develop their work and are also lucky enough to form their own closely knit community within Kommetjie.
