Day 15/30 of my series of retail, social media, business and much more! I think REFY is one of the coolest brands right now. Started when founder, Jess Hunt, had a famous five step eyebrow routine to get her signature fluffy brows (a huge trend), and her friend & makeup artist (Jenna Meek) noticed a product development opportunity for a functional product, they have since killed it with incredible social media campaigns and content, amazing activations (like the one below) and I believe they have disrupted the beauty market in a very impressive way. From my consumer/follower perspective, Jess owned the fluffy brow trend and I saw it as part of her personal brand even as the trend died down and so when I saw her launch their famous brow sculpt, it made so much sense. It’s one of my absolute favourite things to see in business when someone’s authenticity and unique personal brand allows them to create an opportunity and have it go beyond them - as REFY has done with its worldwide success. I think the brand really understands social media as they are consistently bringing out exciting campaigns, pop ups, and unique activations, which is important in the beauty industry where hype phases can die out quickly. And of course after the huge success of what I think is their hero product (the brow sculpt), they are expanding into other beauty product categories like lips and face, which is in line with their focus on functional, natural and clean makeup. If you haven’t already heard of them, they’re one to watch for sure. (Also last point because I could talk all day and I’m actually studying them for some coursework right now, but their retail partnerships are very interesting as 3 weeks into launching Sephora picked them up so they’ve been stocked in the US and UK since very early on. While planning the first-ever Classic Cookie® festival, I wanted to be sure those we collaborated with had a positive experience with our brand When we selected Historic Downtown Sevierville as the festival's location, I knew we had an opportunity to elevate each downtown business during the event. Here are the highlights from the collaborative efforts between some downtown businesses and our company. 🍪 🍪 🍪 🍪 🍪 Collaboration #1: The salon/spa hosted the birthday cake gallery competition in their boutique retail area. Classic Cookie® Results - A comfortable indoor space for guests where the cake entries would not melt. Salon/Spa Results - High foot traffic and most boutique clothes they have ever sold in the store. 🍪 🍪 🍪 🍪 🍪 Collaboration #2: A two-month-old soda fountain business contributed prizes for social media and festival giveaways. Classic Cookie® Results: We had a unique marketing opportunity to engage fans before and during the festival. Soda Fountain Results: They had their biggest sales day in company history during the event. 🍪 🍪 🍪 🍪 🍪 Collaboration #3: The BBQ restaurant sold the Classic Cookie® Cinnabon cookie warmed up and topped with official Cinnabon frosting. Classic Cookie® Results: We had a vendor who could sell this exclusive item and a place where festival guests could enjoy a savory meal after all the sweets. BBQ Restaurant Results: Packed restaurant during the event with many locals saying they loved the food and would have never tried the place if not for the event. 🍪 🍪 🍪 🍪 🍪 I am grateful for all these business owners who worked with our team to make our company's birthday celebration special. Again, I will give that credit to my previous company- Ayala Land Premier. They didn’t teach us how to drink, don’t get me wrong. But we have a School of Marketing and Sales. And in that class, we were not just taught and train how to present ourselves professionally from head to toe but we had the privileged to attend art appreciation even wine and dine which covers the right and perfect pairing including “The Five S” of wine drinking and many more. I can vividly remember, we were advised and I was one of them that it doesn’t matter if one don’t drink that much. Be familiarized with some of the most iconic and popular (alcohol or non-alcoholic) drink from champagne, red wine, white wine, scotch whiskey to cognac. And we should be able to differentiate it at the end of the day. It’s another form of communication. Why? We are working for a premier and luxury industry. 80% of the time it’s either socialization but more like recommendation. That’s how one communicate and build relationship with investors particularly high profile society. It’s better to be cultured.

So, I finally bit the bullet and after 20+ years in corporate positions (primarily business development, sales leadership, event production and staging), have decided to shift gears, and have started a gelato business here in Nashville! The business concept began back in 2017, when Caroline (https://lnkd.in/gHWbHBjc) and I were living and working in Abu Dhabi with Etihad Airways. As life happens, we made a detour or two, but it seemed like the right time to move forward, and I have a solid business model, so here we go! The company is GELATANO©, (a hybrid of gelato and Franano, good right?) and, Caroline is a 50% partner, but I will be running the day-to-day. Our principal market is events of course, with secondary markets being live events, concerts, farmer’s markets, etc. of which there are many here throughout the year. The business is entirely mobile, and we have our first cart arriving from Italy soon, so I will begin taking bookings beginning March 2024. It’s truly artisan as everything is made fresh to order here in Nashville, utilizing only local suppliers and products. I’m definitively a little nervous, as a first-time entrepreneur, but even more excited, and have been prepping the launch, and making some delicious gelato in the meantime. We are experimenting with some interesting flavor profiles and will offer specialty flavor options including alcohol infused, and multiple non-dairy items as well. Phase two includes local wholesale to restaurants and retail, and then on to regional, and who knows, maybe even national distribution. I keep in the back of my mind that, at age 65, Colonel Harland Sanders began franchising his chicken business using his $105 monthly Social Security check. Today, Kentucky Fried Chicken operates more than 5,200 restaurants in the United States and more than 15,000 units around the world. So, if he can make it happen at 65, I have a head start! I know it will be a lot of work, and figuring things out as I go, but I am ready for it; and I am excited to deliver a premium product and experience for our customers and partners.
