It’s #TalkMoneyWeek, and I wanted to say how proud I am of our partner Wagestream for supporting our 5,000+ frontline family members. Carlisle, many years back now, were the first large scale FM business to implement the app which offers employees the opportunity to access a percentage of their wages before payday. This allows our employees vital headroom to deal with unexpected financial challenges mid-month; and removes risks of them having to go to vicious pay day loans companies. Moreso I was pleasantly surprised to learn that in recent times our employees have also saved over £1m via the savings function on the app, where they can divert a percentage of their earnings each month. Whilst we were the first, I am pleased to see Wagestream on many of our competitor’s offerings now as well. Well done to Peter and the Wagestream team for your support and approach. Maybe we will soon see many of the large Security and FM companies, like Carlisle, publcially remove any reliance on Subcontracting, which ultimately increases the risks for employees in the supply chain to be exploited. It is even more saddening when you see that some of these companies are subcontracting for profit, by winning large contracts and then immediately subcontracting the roles out at up to 25% profit margins. I pose the view that if Carlisle can do this at c.£100m turnover then why other companies who are much bigger in size and scale choose to continue to subcontract for profit?
