Who says modular homes have to be drab and uninspiring? Brian Abramson founded Method Homes in 2007 with the intention of using modular construction to streamline building—without sacrificing on good design or craftsmanship. Method has endeavored to walk the line between efficiency and quality by mixing prefabrication with on-site work, recruiting architecture firms on a project-by-project basis, and staffing a rigorous in-house team of designers. Virtually all phases of construction are performed in-house, from design and permitting, to framing, electrical, finishes, and final installation on-site, which gives them the advantage of having full control over virtually the entire building process, significantly reduceing the risk of delays or mistakes.

The Boldt Company has launched a new modular construction company, Bildt, to address growing demand from facility owners, general contractors, and architects aiming to reduce costs and accelerate project timelines. BILDT will focus on manufacturing modular buildings, slide-in rooms, and bathroom pods for various markets, including health care, industrial, educational, and commercial sectors. The fabrication process will be centered at an off-site facility in Oshkosh, where modular components such as prefabricated panels, headwalls, exterior wall panels, steel wall studs, and interior framing assemblies will be precision-engineered to meet project specifications... #ModularConstruction #Innovation #Construction Read about it and more: https://lnkd.in/eEfzYSCh

As the then trustee of the Grade I listed Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery designed by Sir John Soane, I was responsible for leading the procurement of the Pitzhanger Lodge in Ealing Council (London Borough of Ealing) that recently won a RIBA London award designed by Joanne Townshend . Some tips on procuring a beautifully designed small project . 1 - Select an Architect that is able to undertake as many of the lead design services as possible. You never need a cast of many and the Architect is always best placed to lead and coordinate a project of this scale. Jo was Architect, Lead designer, Project manager, Planning consultant ,Contract administrator and Principle Designer. It worked like clockwork . 2 - If you want the structure to be expressive and be able to tell its own story, pick an engineer that see's their practice as making art. Steve Webb of Webb Yates Engineers practices this way . 3 -To reduce carbon in the building, first reduce it in its fabric . We decided to make the entire structure without steel or concrete and instead from timber. 4-Omit as much of the needles technology as possible ...it will go out of date and only ever goes wrong. Buildings don't need to be over complicated, instead allow them to be easily adapted. 5- Finally, pick individuals whether they are the designers or contractors that you know that when you a hit a problem and you will, that there is a culture to work together and to proactively find a solution. https://lnkd.in/eSWk65vd

Developed collaboratively by WoodWorks and KL&A Engineers and Builders, this case study delves into a comprehensive building study that utilizes whole building life cycle assessment (#WBLCA) and cost estimates to compare the embodied carbon and dollar cost variances between #masstimber/light-frame wood hybrid (MT/LF hybrid) and steel structural systems. The analysis focuses on the Nez Perce-Clearwater USDA Forest Service Supervisor’s Office in Kamiah, Idaho, showcasing the differences between the MT/LF hybrid building and an alternate steel design. Key comparisons are drawn in terms of embodied carbon, construction dollar cost, and construction speed, considering various architectural aspects like construction type, enclosures, fire protection, acoustic performance, and ceiling finishes. Timber frame or traditional build? 🤔 One of the primary advantages of using a timber frame is the rapid construction speed it offers for sites. With the ability to have multiple trades working simultaneously, tasks such as plumbing and electrical work can commence as soon as the roof is in place. Due to their quick installation, timber frames are also recognized for their environmentally friendly construction, resulting in lower CO2 emissions. This is especially true when the wood is sourced ethically and trees are replanted to maintain sustainability. 🌲 On the flip side, one of the primary advantages of traditional construction methods is the robustness and longevity of the houses. This is evident in the enduring presence of Victorian homes in London even after 200 years, maintaining their original form and structure. Another significant but often overlooked benefit is the flexibility to make last-minute adjustments to the architectural plans. Modifying small details in the layout is simpler with blockwork compared to timber frame constructions, where pre-built panels limit on-site alterations. As a result, making design changes during construction can be more time-consuming and costly for timber frame buildings. 🏛️ Which one would you go for?

Historically, EIFS has been the cheapest way to overclad buildings which is why it's been used so much. When you peel back the layers and start to understand the many challenges and drawbacks associated with EIFS, you start to realize it's not the most cost-effective solution over time. The Future of Building Exteriors is not EIFS.

I'm thrilled to share my latest deep dive into the world of advanced construction techniques. In my newest article, I explore the transformative potential of Prefabricated (Prefab) exterior wall systems in retrofitting buildings to meet modern standards, particularly the rigorous Passive House standards. Through meticulous research, I compare Prefab solutions, like Dextall's innovative wall system, against traditional Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems (EIFS). Discover why Prefab walls are the superior choice, offering unmatched fire safety, remarkable durability, cost efficiency, and seamless compliance with stringent building codes. Dextall's use of noncombustible materials, coupled with efficient installation and exceptional thermal performance, positions it as a frontrunner in sustainable building practices.
