Delighted to see a Ports and Harbour Strategy for the Southern Region of Ireland progress. The Southern Regional Assembly is inviting tenders for a socio-economic impact analysis of the port sectors in the Southern Region to the State, Regional and Sub Regional economy, and of its future growth potential. This analysis will help the Southern Regional Assembly communicate the economic impact (direct, indirect, and induced) of our Region’s port and harbour assets to our regional and national economy, the social and economic potential of these assets to drive balanced regional economic development and the potential economic growth (and economic benefit to the Region) in emerging sectors, especially as renewable energy hubs and economic activity generated by Offshore Renewable Energy. The ports and harbours assets to be assessed include: • Tier 1 Ports: Port of Cork and Shannon Foynes Port. • Tier 2 Ports: Port of Waterford and Rosslare Europort. • Ports of Regional Significance: Tralee-Fenit, Bantry, Kinsale, Castletownberehaven, Youghal, and New Ross. • Other ports and harbours for potential inclusion include: Daingean Úi Chúis, Baltimore, Ringaskiddy, Kilmore, Tivoli, Cobh, Rushbrooke Dry Dock facilities, Ballycotton, Union Hall, Schull, Kilrush, Moneypoint, Cahercon, Dungarvan, Dunmore East, Wexford, Quay, and Belview Port. https://lnkd.in/ejqqSEJ2 #ports #infrastructure #economicdevelopment #powerandenergy #offshorewind #transport

Yesterday, the Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Finance, Shona Robison officially handed over the Stornoway Deep Water Terminal to its operators. Built by McLaughlin & Harvey Ltd, the new Deep Water Terminal, which started operating at the end of March, includes a facility for berthing cruise ships up to 360 metres long, a new deep-water berth to cater for larger cargo vessels and a freight ferry berth. The deep water terminal has been enabled by the Growth Accelerator model of investment and follows on from the success of the Growth Acceleratoer model used to enable the St James Quarter in Edinburgh and the Dundee Waterfront development which includes the V&A Dundee. The new facility will bring new revenue streams to the Port and position the Western Isles as a hub for new renewable industry activity including the plans for three offshore farms via the ScotWind framework, new onshore wind facilities and the development of the new interconnector between the islands and mainland. These opportunities alongside the enhanced tourism offer will deliver supply chain opportunities, new jobs and long-term economic benefits. Working closely with local delivery partners including the Stornoway Port Authority, Comhairle Nan Eilean Siar, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, VisitScotland, the local community and The Scottish Government, this major capital project has been delivered with long-term economic outputs at its heart. https://lnkd.in/eEh5MBtU David McIntosh Neil Rutherford Tony Rose #infrastructure #economy #construction

Meet the people behind our ports. The ocean may be our region's greatest natural advantage but it's our people who bridge the connection between land and sea, attracting opportunities from across the street and around the globe. Today's people feature is Scott Penney, CEO, Port of Argentia, Newfoundland. Scott and his team have been blazing a trail in the green energy sector, elevating the Port of Argentia onto the global stage as a monopile marshalling port, leveraging the port's historical aviation infrastructure by converting runways into storage grounds for massive offshore wind components. This week another chapter in the development of the port was announced by the Honourable Dr, Andrew Furey, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, with a $15 million investment to support the Port of Argentia’s Multi-Tenant Docking Infrastructure Project. The investment will support the region to capitalize on emerging opportunities in the offshore and renewable energy industries while improving infrastructure to support multiple sectors, contributing to sustained economic activity. This announcement emphasizes the importance of the diverse operations and services provided by our ports and the remarkable opportunities they can create for our region through strategic investment. These investments empower our ports to embrace innovation and broaden service offerings which yield economic benefits at the local, regional, and national levels. Stay tuned as we continue to bring forward more stories about our growing network of people, ports and possibilities across Atlantic Canada! 🆕 New Supply Chain Impact Report! Last Friday, we published our Supply Chain Impact Report examining the effect of our Moray Firth offshore wind projects on the #Scottish and #UK supply chains. The launch event in #Aberdeen detailed the significant job creation and value generation, particularly from the operational Moray East and in construction Moray West projects. The event featured presentations by Adam Morrison, UK Country Manager for Ocean Winds, Maggie McGinlay, CEO of Energy Transition Zone Ltd, Paul O'Brien, DeepWind Cluster Manager, and Aberdeenshire Councillor Doreen Mair. Discussions highlighted our O&M base in Fraserburgh Harbour as a catalyst, for benefitting both offshore wind industry and existing sectors in its expansion. This proactive approach showcases our commitment in leveraging future projects to support and foster leading-edge local businesses. 👷♂️ 👷♀️ Significantly, over 100 Scottish and UK-based supply companies participated in the Moray Firth projects. Independent analysis from the report reveals impressive socio-economic benefits: development and construction of these projects alone created over 8,000 jobs and generated over £700 million for the UK economy. Operational Moray West is further expected to contribute £800 million to Scotland. 🔍 The report features case studies of 15 Scottish suppliers who benefitted from contracts with OW Ocean Winds. This focus on local sourcing exemplifies our commitment to supporting the local supply chain, from large-scale investments to collaborating with SMEs. Looking ahead, OW Ocean Winds remains dedicated to ensuring continued benefits for local businesses as our project pipeline grows! 🌬 ➡ Download the full report (https://lnkd.in/eq6Hsv8m) for a deeper dive into our supply chain impacts and the companies involved! #offshorewind #supplychain #scotland

It is good to see infrastructure and housing in the King’s Speech, underlining the new Government’s ambitions to get Britain building. Planning is not just housing though, and they will need to address planning holdups in quarries as well, as the major part of the supply chain for all construction. This was one of our three main issues in our Priorities for the Next Government document. We look forward to seeing the detail of rail reform. Rail freight, which is not being rolled into the new Great British Railways, needs to be protected and supported to grow and we will lobby to make sure the necessary targets and safeguards are in place to enable the whole railway system to thrive. https://lnkd.in/e4KeRwyA

🇫🇮 NRC Group Finland has agreed with NCC to transport around 200,000 tons of aggregates to the Turku railway yard project. 🚆 The distance of transportation plays an important role both for the cost and the impact of emissions. The project partly implements NCC’s One-Stop-Shop concept, where NRC Group Finland delivers aggregates and some of the project’s surplus soil to NCC’s soil reception - With round-trip loads, we can utilise returns and contribute to lowering emissions from transportation, says Jarkko Kupiainen, project manager, NRC Group Finland. Ports are a top economic engine of our coastal economies, so it is fantastic to see the American Association of Port Authorities endorse the revenue sharing improvements proposed by the #RISEEAct. These revenues are versatile and can be directed to a state's specific coastal needs, including port infrastructure and resilience. https://lnkd.in/gq9b9PDF
