💚Great that Henry Tufnell was able to join the Trust Port Roundtable with the New Statesman. Conversation quickly turned to how we can win the competition to land renewables and FLOW supply chain manufacturing and jobs in South West Wales. Strong agreement, in light of bold mainland european port investments, that the opportunity window is closing fast. We need to spend less time defining the problem, and do much more to define a solution; one that can work for everyone, and which government can metabolise and then back. The time for lists of piecemeal ‘asks’ is over; let’s present a co-curated public/private ‘grand strategic deal’. Port of Milford Haven, and all enterprises with an interest in renewables and FLOW in the Celtic Sea must play their part in that. Just need to figure out how!! Delighted to see Kevin O'Sullivan highlight the Port of Port-La Nouvelle offshore energy port PPP Project. Ireland, just like France and Denmark, is a world-leader in public-private partnerships. This is a 'natural advantage' particularly with the expertise and resources of the National Treasury Management Agency now being deployed to meet this challenge. The municipality-owned Port of Esbjerg also demonstrates a wider issue with infrastructure in Ireland. Local governments and Port companies are not empowered to fund, procure, and deliver infrastructure like their peers that they need to cooperate (and compete) with around Europe. A directly elected Mayor for Limerick is a step in the right direction for infrastructure delivery in Ireland I am sure each candidate declared for that position will do what is best for Shannon Foynes Port, and to fulfil the achievable ambitions of the Shannon Estuary Taskforce Report . The strength and depth of the field competing for that position is extraordinary and a testament to the true partnership spirit between stakeholders around the Shannon Estuary and provides a 'natural advantage' for Limerick that I thought they only had on the hurling pitch. Other cities and regions now need to follow. Meanwhile here in Cork Harbour all stakeholders are ready to partner and build what is required for energy security right now, thanks to the leadership of the Port of Cork Company Ltd. and Doyle Shipping Group . Like Port La Nouvelle and Esberg, the support of the EU will also be required. According to a new independent report the potential ScottishPower Renewables’ first fixed-bottom foundation offshore MachairWind 2GW farm  could talk advantage of – eight Scottish locations – subject to further studies including technical feasibility. Islay, Oban – operations and maintenance base Campbeltown and Machrihanish, Clyde Coast (including Hunterston) – operations and maintenance base, and construction port Arnish, Belfast, Kishorn, Nigg – construction port As well as assessing opportunities created by the project, it also considered any potential impacts of using the different ports for the construction period to build the windfarm and/or the lifespan of its operations.

I wonder how the battery will only have “clean energy”. Will it be directly fed from solar and/or wind farms or will it draw its power for storage from the grid. I also wonder how long the 291 Mwh will power how many homes if and when needed. And how cost effective is this - what does the SA Government/SA Power Networks pay for the ability to draw on this battery and how does that feed into SA’s retail power bills? Effectively SA consumers will have to cover the capital and operational costs of the battery somehow.

Back in January 2022 OW Ocean Winds was awarded the rights to develop a new offshore wind farm in the outer Moray Firth as part of the ScotWind process run by the Crown Estate Scotland. The development is now at a critical milestone, with consent applications due to be submitted in the autumn of 2024. But how did we get here? Here’s a quick run through of where we started and where we’re headed: 📍2022 OW Ocean Winds awarded the rights to develop Caledonia Offshore Wind Farm. Offshore and onshore scoping reports submitted. 📍2023 Ecological and geotechnical surveys launched, and we held our first public consultations across Aberdeenshire. 📍2024 Pre-application consultations are being held ahead of consent application submission in the Autumn of 2024. 📍2025 Decision on consent award from Marine Scotland and Aberdeenshire Council. 📍2027 Construction of the onshore elements for Caledonia will begin.  📍2028 Construction of the offshore elements for Caledonia will begin.  📍2030 Caledonia is planned to be operational, supplying 2 million homes with low-cost, low-carbon energy. #Caledonia #OffshoreWind
