Such an important project to develop new approaches to empower and support researchers on their career paths. Vitae is specifically reviewing examples of tenure track-like models and has developed Guiding Principles with stakeholders which will be shared in the coming months. The Principles cover important practices like competitive and inclusive recruitment, transparency, fair pay and benefits, professional development, and inclusive and healthy working environments. Although they have been developed for tenure track-like programmes, these are fundamental good employment practices, and most are applicable to the employment of any researcher. SecureEU aligns with and complements the European Commission proposal on a Council Recommendation on a European framework to attract and retain research, innovation, and entrepreneurial talents in Europe. POIESIS-PT team (Marta Entradas, Inês Carneiro e Sousa, Feng Yan) attended the 12th Congress of SciComPt, which took place at Universidade do Minho, in Braga, May 8-10. The team presented two talks. In the talk “The role of scientific institutions in public involvement in science: voices from institutional stakeholders” the team presented the main findings of the Focus Groups with Institutional Stakeholders, which took place in Lisbon in February 2024. This talk discussed the need to reinforce the capacity of science communication offices with resources to establish long-term relationships between scientific institutions and society. In the talk” Science communication by scientists in Portugal”, the team discussed perceptions of researchers working in Portuguese research institutions and universities about their role in science communication and how this may affect public’s opinion and trust in science. SciComPt is the Portuguese Science and Technology Communication Network, aiming to promote science communication in all its aspects, to promote exchange between Science Communication professionals as well as the informed participation of citizens in all issues involving Science and Technology. #PTPOIESIS #TrustInScience

How can research funding and performing organizations expand their #Science4Policy activities? Reflecting on the latest guidance on the topic from Science Europe, I think we need to work on 3 levels to develop: - institutional capacities - tools and infrastructures - policies and enabling conditions Great to discuss this with Hans Willems from Research Foundation Flanders - FWO; Alberto Mercado from CSIC; Margarida Prado from Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT); and Mari Sundli Tveit from Norges forskningsråd. Thanks to Science Europe Lidia Borrell-Damian and Nicola Francesco Dotti for organizing this stimulating discussion. More info on the guidelines here: https://lnkd.in/eRk-VSuM

CoARA Steering Board Member Eva Méndez participated today in a plenary on "Advances in Research Evaluation: Large-Scale Efforts in the US and Worldwide" at the Year of Open Science Culminating Conference organised by the Center for Open Science. The session brought together representatives from the Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment (CoARA), Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA), and Higher Education Leadership for Open Science (HELIOS Open). It fostered a discussion about research evaluation in the U.S. and global contexts and highlighted the complementary roles of the initiatives. The session also addressed gaps in the research evaluation landscape, surfacing areas where action is needed to bring research evaluation reforms to fruition. ➡ Brian Nosek from the Center for Open Science: "All of the enthusiasm, engagement, excitement about #OpenScience and the increasing adaption has been amazing to witness over the last decade. But none of it will be sustainable without attention to how researchers are assessed for the quality of their work." ➡Eva Méndez #CoARA: "It's not only the year of #OpenScience, it is the era of open science; we are very happy to know that we are on time to change the bottleneck of open science, which is #ResearchAssessment. Join us!" ➡Haley Hazlett #DORA: "We know that #ResearchAssessment is very closely tied to research culture. And it's really a system problem that impacts everyone. Solving these types of challenges requires a collaborative system approach that addresses the underlying culture, infrastructure, and conditions of the entire scholarly ecosystem." #ReformingRA
