EMPOWER YOUR VOICE: STAND UP FOR CIVIC RIGHTS AND SHAPE THE FUTURE. In a world where the voices of individuals can lead to transformative change, understanding and exercising civic rights becomes crucial. Civic rights encompass the essential freedoms and responsibilities that allow citizens to participate fully in the political and social life of their communities. These rights are foundational to democracy and empower individuals to influence the direction of their societies. 📍Why Civic Rights Matter Civic rights, such as the right to vote, freedom of expression, assembly, and association, are more than mere legal entitlements—they are the lifeblood of democratic engagement. When citizens actively participate in the democratic process, they contribute to the creation of laws and policies that reflect the will and needs of the people. This participation is not only a right but a civic duty, helping to ensure that governments remain accountable and responsive. 📍The Power of Your Voice Every individual's voice counts in shaping the future. By understanding your civic rights and responsibilities, you can: 1. Influence Policy and Legislation: Active civic engagement allows you to advocate for policies that align with your values and address community needs. Whether through voting, petitioning, or participating in public consultations, your input can shape the legislative landscape. 2. Promote Accountability and Transparency: Civic rights empower citizens to hold leaders and institutions accountable. By staying informed and voicing concerns, you help ensure that those in power act in the public's best interest. 3. Strengthen Community Bonds: Civic participation fosters a sense of community and shared purpose. It brings people together to address common challenges and work towards collective goals, creating a more cohesive and resilient society. 4. Protect and Expand Rights: By advocating for civic rights, individuals help protect existing freedoms and work towards expanding rights to marginalized and underrepresented groups, promoting inclusivity and equity. We invite you to join us on Saturday for an enlightening discussion on civic rights with Fache Taofiq Abubakar. This session will delve into the significance of civic rights, the current challenges and opportunities in civic engagement, and practical ways to empower your voice in the public sphere. 📍FJI Civic Rights Webinar Date: Saturday, July 27 Time: 6:00 – 9:00 PM Google Meet joining info: https://lnkd.in/dni-4YzV Don't miss this chance to gain valuable knowledge and be part of a vibrant conversation about shaping the future of our society. This is next-level insanity. Nothing says “Season’s Greetings” like racism and exclusion. Celebrating the diversity of their community is a noble idea, but why can’t all people participate? What happened to welcoming allyship from all groups? Essentially, they are celebrating inclusion by…excluding others? I think (but am open to correction) the ridiculousness of this speaks for itself, so I won’t elaborate much further, but give this scenario some consideration if the opposite were executed—if a party that excluded any other specific race isn’t acceptable, how is this? Diversity and inclusion are about eliminating barriers, and this simply cannot happen when people are overtly being excluded. #diversityequityinclusion #racism #criticalthinking

Leveraging Technology for Informed Civic Engagement: Insights as a Guest Speaker and Panelist 📌 I recently had the privilege of serving as both a guest speaker and a panelist at an event focused on the intersection of technology, political information accessibility, and policymaking. The discussion delved into various aspects of how technology serves as a crucial tool in shaping political discourse, fostering civic engagement, and addressing pressing issues facing young people today. 📌 One of the key topics explored was the role of technology in promoting civil discourse and bridging political divides. 📌 Another significant point of discussion centered on the pressing issues confronting young people today and the role of technology in addressing them. From socioeconomic disparities to climate change and beyond, young people face a myriad of challenges that can be tackled through innovative technological solutions. Whether it's leveraging data analytics for evidence-based policymaking or harnessing social media platforms for grassroots activism, technology offers promising avenues for empowering the next generation to effect positive change. 📌 Looking ahead, I shared my vision for the future of technology and politics, envisioning a landscape where digital tools and platforms continue to evolve to enhance democratic participation and accountability. From blockchain voting systems to AI-driven policy analysis, the possibilities for leveraging technology to strengthen democratic processes are boundless. However, it's crucial to ensure that these advancements are accompanied by robust safeguards to protect against misinformation, privacy breaches, and digital disenfranchisement. 📌 Finally, we explored strategies for making politics more engaging and interactive for young people through technology. From gamified educational platforms to virtual town halls and participatory budgeting apps, there are countless ways to harness technology to make political processes more accessible and engaging for the digital-native generation. By meeting young people where they are and leveraging the power of technology to facilitate meaningful interactions and empower civic action, we can cultivate a more informed, inclusive, and participatory democracy for generations to come. 💻 Throughout the event, my slides complemented these discussions, illustrating real-world examples and practical applications of technology in the realm of politics and policymaking. As both a guest speaker and a panelist, I was honored to contribute to the dialogue and exchange insights with fellow participants, underscoring the pivotal role of technology in shaping the future of civic engagement and democratic governance.📌

Currently mobilizing and empowering women in tech to support Kamala Harris through advocacy, education, and community engagement. Former CEO of SmartBug, HubSpot Elite Solutions Partner.
This evening I was reminded that even if they're not expecting it, and even if they are busy and stressed, if you ask the right question to the right person in the right way, you're likely to have a good conversation with a stranger and make a real connection. I have never been a fan of cold-calling, but I've deployed strategic warm-calling from sales and customer success as a layer in a larger campaign. I was volunteering with the Human Rights Campaign tonight, calling confirmed HRC supporters and registered Democrats to ask them 3 questions: 1. Would they be voting for pro-Equality candidates this November? 2. How did they plan to vote? 3. Were they interested in hearing about ways to volunteer? I had some great conversations. All answered the first question with a tone of severe wariness in their voice. Most not only answered my second question but elaborated on ways they had voted in the past and if anything would be the same or different this year. One person hung up on me, but we didn't get past: "Hi, this is Jen, is this [insert name]?" so I wasn't too offended. And, I recruited a few volunteers in Arizona. People were real with me. They were honest. They sounded tired. I thanked them, genuinely. They wished me luck. Because I was in a position ask the right question to the right person in the right way. #SalesLeadership #CustomerExperience #WomenInTechForHarris #HRC

National Co-ordinating Centre for Public Engagement (NCCPE) released the article about our civic- engaging! When we use the term 'civic', the first question that arises is 'who would the person be?' In our project, we identified four groups and assigned the 'optimal' role for each party to ensure inclusivity and diversity, moving beyond merely a 'box-ticking' civic engagement exercise. 📍General public: This included any member of the public who need not be interested in or affected by advertising but willing to learn more about advertising norms and practices. 📍Social Sector: Social organizations involved mainly with women and related underrepresented communities. 📍Experts from Various Fields: Experts broadly comprised members of academia and practitioners in various fields. 📍Business agencies and companies: Agencies and companies creating products/ offering services and directly involved with advertisements. From ThinkBigPicture: Excerpt: "Today, I want to break down Project 2025 into some subject areas that will matter to key groups of voters, with talking points for each along with more in-depth discussion. Have a neighbor worried about democracy? Know a colleague concerned about attacks on women’s bodies? Got an elderly relative on Social Security and Medicare? Is your kid worried about climate change? Have an LGBTQ+ loved one? Finally, where Project 2025 is silent but the RNC has been vocal, I will also make a note of it. The two will work in tandem to push the U.S. towards authoritarianism and fascism, and their twin efforts need to be seen together and in that context. My hope is that we can all become standard bearers, armed with the right message for the right audiences, about the dangers of Project 2025 and a second Trump presidency. So let’s dive in. The extremist, Christian nationalist right must be made to own the nightmare they plan to unleash on us. With enough public awareness, and through a coalition of democracy defenders, abortion rights voters, senior citizens, climate change voters, and the powerful LGBTQ+ community, just to name a few, we can beat back this danger. We have the numbers; now we must share the information so that we can also muster the determination and enthusiasm to prevail in November. This piece is free for all readers, so make sure to share this post and link --> https://lnkd.in/gqJnnYt7 with anyone who may find this information about Project 2025 helpful..." #democracy #2024elections #extremism #womensrights #humanrights #elections #voting #civilrights #medicare #climateaction #healthcare #christiannationalism #whitesupremecy #Project2025 #socialsecurity
