#ICC #AnnualConclave #Presentation Radhika Khosla, Research Director at The Oxford India Centre for Sustainable Development, provided insights into "Climate Action Through Sustainable Cooling: Policy Perspectives and Global Cooling Pledge." She emphasised the critical aspect of Cooling as a justice issue, particularly highlighting residential space cooling and cold chain as significant areas of concern due to their projected high capacity and operational energy use. Radhika emphasised the necessity for complementing these efforts with grid decarbonisation. Moreover, she emphasised the transition from mere cooling action plans to legislative measures, drawing attention to Vietnam's example in this regard. She stressed the importance of integrated actions, which include the implementation of passive strategies such as building code improvements, the establishment of higher efficiency standards like MEPS, and the phasing down of HFCs.

#AboutSSETSTopProblem# Problems are raw materials for innovations!/opportunities. The world has changed totally no thanks to the effect of the climate change. The weather condition can longer be predicted as we all battle with excess heat alongside high electricity taffif which most times are not enjoyed. This has reduced comfort in indoor spaces. Conventional materials as aesthetic as they are needs the support of HVAC for spaces to be comfortable. This translate to high usage of energy and increase in CO2 emission that increase the hazards to the climate. This has called for the embrace of materials that can reduce emission and usage of energy. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA) 2021, building and construction accounts for 30% global energy consumption and 38% CO2 emissions as Altan et al (2008) also reiterated that building envelope is the key factor for energy consumption in building. The top problem or opportunity I wish to take advantage of is providing knowledge on machined pressed stabilised blocks as climate resilience walling material in reducing CO2 emissions and energy usage while enhancing a better indoor environment for occupants. Already half-way through this year's European Council for an Energy Efficient Economy (eceee) summer study, discussing all things energy efficiency. And believe me, there is loads to discuss 🤓 In many sessions I've attended so far, we somehow did touch upon the multiple- and co-benefits of energy efficiency as an important driver for energy efficiency measures. Particularly when looking at the recent EU election results, it becomes clear that we still have a big job to do to explain to people why investing in energy efficiency is about much more than 'just' climate change. The narrative matters and needs to be better framed and more focused around people. Therefore, I am really happy that the Healthy Buildings Barometer has been on the agenda twice this week: Yesterday with our VELUX side event on 'How to deliver healthy, sustainable and resilient buildings with the EPBD' and today with an abstract session by BPIE - Buildings Performance Institute Europe on 'How to embed health and well-being in buildings policies'. It was great to see the interest of the audience in our findings and recommendations. To address this topic, we now also need to communicate more broadly with stakeholders outside the energy bubble, working on climate and health. Special thanks to Marco Morini, Rémi Collombet-Gourdon, Caroline Duvier and my dear colleagues Olivier DEVÈS and Peter Suckert for joining our sessions! #eceee2024 #energyefficiency #HealthyBuildingsBarometer #EPBD

🌟The Acivico Group Roadmap to Decarbonisation🌟 The UK government has committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 80% by 2035, with the ultimate goal of achieving a net zero economy by 2050. Decarbonising buildings is one of the biggest challenges the UK faces, requiring significant efforts across all sectors. Heating is a major source of emissions in the UK, accounting for 37% of the country's greenhouse gas emissions, making it a critical focus for decarbonisation efforts. While progress has been made toward meeting interim carbon budgets, much more remains to be done. The need for action is particularly urgent in schools, many of which are aging and have inefficient, wasteful heating systems that contribute significantly to emissions. Refurbishing or replacing these systems and improving the energy performance of these buildings is crucial for advancing sustainability in schools. Our sustainability team have been working hard exploring and developing new sustainability initiatives to expand our existing portfolio of services. The first of these is a comprehensive six-stage decarbonisation roadmap of services designed to support new and existing clients in transitioning to a net zero carbon future. Although initially developed with schools in mind, the roadmap is transferable and its principles can be applied to other sectors. Want to find out more? Perks of being a public affairs and policy enthusiast: you get excited when a EU directive is approved by the parliament 🎉 The decision to pass the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) marks a significant step towards sustainability and energy efficiency in the building sector. The EPBD will contribute to reducing CO2 emissions, make our buildings more climate-friendly, and help reduce energy costs. A very positive addition to the revised directive is the inclusion of provisions for #HealthyBuildings. A big shout out to my colleagues in Brussels, Elisabeth Hoffmann & Julie Kjestrup, for constructively contributing to the discussions around the #EPBD from the beginning! 💚 #HealthyBuildings #EnergyEfficiency #Sustainability
After last week’s Global Forum for Buildings and Climate in Paris, where representatives from 70 countries signed the Chaillot declaration, agreeing to lay the foundation for progress towards a rapid, fair, and effective transition of the buildings sector, Members of the European Parliament further underlined the importance of the building sector in the green transition today. The European Parliament just voted in favour of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD), introducing important new provisions to make our buildings energy efficient, decarbonized and healthier, factoring in all building parameters: from energy to environment and health. With a broader scope, EPBD now goes beyond energy performance to better acknowledge that whole life carbon and indoor comfort is an important development, sending a strong signal that EPBD goes beyond decarbonizing our building stock. It’s also about improving living conditions, creating jobs in the construction sector, increasing our energy dependence and protecting citizens and businesses from high energy prices – all critical areas to tackle for Europe’s future resilience and competitiveness. Congratulations to the European Parliament on this important milestone towards formal adoption, in particular, Morten Helveg Petersen and Ciarán Cuffe for succeeding in reaching a balanced compromise. We count on Member States to follow suit. #HealthyBuildings #EPBD #Fitfor55

⚡In the fight against climate change the EU has just agreed on a reform of the EU Buildings Directive. ⚡ The recast provides for stricter energy requirements in the building sector. By 2050 all buildings are meant to be climate-neutral. 🌍 🌞 To reach this goal, one crucial step is the transformation of the heating and cooling supply. ➡ Scientists from Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI together with Oeko-Institut e.V., Technische Universität Wien, e-think and Halmstad University have developed an extensive decarbonisation pathway scenario: ❗ The new report "Renewable Heating and Cooling Pathways: Towards full decarbonisation by 2050" offers a broad overview on transformation paths, technology potentials and instruments for transforming the heating and cooling sector in the EU by 2050. It provides insights into the different perspectives of the individual member states. ▶ The scenario results show a significant reduction of total energy use for heating and cooling by about one third from 2019 to 2050. This is mainly driven by renovation of the building envelope, but also by the replacement of inefficient, old heating systems. It underlines the huge importance for improving the existing building stock. ▶ Total electricity consumption almost doubles from 2019 until 2050. Electrification via the strong increase in decentralised heat pumps and large-scale centralised heat pumps in district heating networks is the most relevant change in the supply structure of heating and cooling across the EU-27 in the decarbonisation pathway scenario. This also holds for individual member states: The study expects an increase of electricity use for heating & cooling in all member states, although at different scales. ⏩ The research is based on a detailed modelling of the European System and offers many more insights on individual sectors. individual countries and structures policy needs. It clusters member states according to their individual transition pathways and preconditions. Heat in Spatial is concern to building occupants and owners lately. Approximately an average of 40% of total energy demand in Ghana consumed in residential or industrial buildings, thus also significantly contributing to carbon dioxide emissions. About 30% of this energy demand is attributed to space (air-conditioning) cooling, primarily influenced by the building's envelope and need to ensure indoor thermal comfort. SICC-Coatings Ghana has being promoting the technology which solves building cooling energy challenges with the innovative Reflective Membrane Technology made in Germany.
