For the past four years, we have been in partnership with WWF. We have been working together to protect and restore tropical forests and support local communities in Uganda. And we are just about to start up in Madagascar, and Viet Nam.  So far, we have restored 726 hectares of tropical forest in Uganda, supported 382 local community members through alternative livelihood activities, and initiated the restoration of 60 hectares of mangroves in Madagascar. You are looking at a bio-boiler. A super-sized wood stove that plays a crucial part in our mission to reduce operational emissions at our production site in Østbirk, Denmark. Here’s how a bio-boiler works: 🌲Fuel: We feed biomass into the system, using FSC or PEFC-certified wood waste generated during the production of our windows. 🔥Combustion: The wood chips are burned in the bio-boiler, producing heat. ♨️Heat exchange: This heat warms water, which is used to heat our production buildings. The transition from natural gas to bio-boiler and district heating has led to an annual reduction of more than 900 tonnes of CO2 at our Østbirk site. Plus, it makes disposing of the wood chips much easier than before. This is just one of many efforts to reduce emissions from our own operations 🌱 Through a combination of projects, we aim to save about 10,000 tonnes of CO2 annually by 2027, once all currently planned projects are operational.

The end of the beginning!  Last week, we gathered at Living Places Copenhagen for the final time to mark the beginning of the disassembly process as the prototypes prepare for a new life in another location.  Living Places Copenhagen has been a constant hub of activity since the doors opened two years ago, welcoming thousands of visitors from around the world. Since then, there’s been so much to celebrate. Highlights include:  📰 Global media features in the BBC, The Times, and the Financial Times 🏆 Eight prestigious awards in the categories of architecture, innovation, and sustainability 🏡 More than 12,000 on-site visitors across 177 events and activities and 318 tours While the site is now closed, we are excited about what lies ahead. Scaling projects are already underway internationally; including the first prototype outside Denmark recently launched in the Netherlands, and SOS Children’s Villages is set to bring Children’s Living Places to Ukraine. What began as an ambitious experiment has blossomed into a movement that is driving the conversation on how we can build homes that are better for both people and planet.   So much has been learned and achieved in this chapter of the Living Places journey, and this is just the beginning! A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has contributed and been part of this truly collaborative process, and special thanks to our partners EFFEKT, Artelia Denmark & Enemærke & Petersen a/s their inspiring and innovative spirit. According to Fleming Voetmann, Vice President of External Relations and Sustainability at VELUX, energy renovating is a triple win. How? Not only does implementing energy efficient solutions to existing buildings help us save energy and reduce emissions 🌿 It also creates hundreds of thousands of construction jobs across the EU, boosting local economies 👷 And finally, renovating buildings to meet new energy efficient standards also means making buildings healthier and more fit for living 🏢 That is what we mean by better living:

Mayors and local government officials are key to delivering a successful green transition for our communities. The focus on the power of local government was one of the central themes of ICLEI Europe’s 10th European Conference on Sustainable Cities and Towns held in Aalborg, Denmark. Our Vice President of External Relations and Sustainability, Fleming Voetmann brought the message about the importance of healthy buildings to the event, where he highlighted the need to focus on putting people at the centre of renovation projects. • Mayors can tackle the built environment and support the green transition by having a plan to renovate public buildings, including schools, hospitals and public housing. • Ensuring that these spaces are energy efficient, provide natural light and healthy indoor climates is an integral step to supporting flourishing and resilient communities. • Thank you to Aalborg Mayor, Lasse Frimand Jensen for leading by example. Cities are not waiting for national directives, they are using their proximity to people to lead the way with tangible, community-focused solutions. Sustainable urban development is within our reach with local public-private collaboration, driving real solutions and actionable strategies led by those who are implementing them on the ground. 💪🌿 State of Green Denmark  Creative Denmark
