Listening now to a live conversation at the SIDS Smart Festival about Blue Ocean Futures in the Carribean Region and Jamaica, some interesting questions are: how do we embolden kids, apart from tech knowledge, to make our oceans bluer, to keep them blue and getting them engaged in nurturing marine biodiversity? How do we make the Ocean relatable to them? What jobs, careers are available to them? What kind of education should we provide them?" Fascinating questions. https://lnkd.in/gsftJC2M

Education plays a pivotal role in our lives, especially in a world characterized by dynamic change and easy access to information. The ability to acquire new skills and knowledge is essential for personal growth and adaptation to an ever-evolving environment. In this context, Youth Pawa, in collaboration with ACEF - Africa Climate and Environment Foundation, recognized the importance of continuous learning and expanding horizons. They seized the opportunity to visit Diani TurtleWatch in Diani, a journey that exemplified the significance of gaining knowledge about the marine ecosystem. In today's interconnected world, information flows freely from various sources, including social media, peer networks, and innovative ideas. To thrive in this dynamic landscape, it's crucial to be proactive in seeking out new knowledge and skills. Youth Pawa's visit to Diani Turtle Watch perfectly embodies this spirit of curiosity and the drive to learn. Diani TurtleWatch served as an educational sanctuary where the Youth Pawa team delved into the intricacies of the marine ecosystem. They had the privilege of discovering the rich biodiversity living in the ocean, gaining insights into the profound impact of pollution, and understanding the plight of endangered species. One of the most critical takeaways from this experience was the profound connection between climate change and our oceans. Youth Pawa Pawa learned how climate change adversely affects marine ecosystems, leading to rising sea levels, ocean acidification, and the endangerment of species like sea turtles. Armed with this knowledge, they were equipped to become ambassadors for change. Being equipped with the valuable information acquired during their visit, Youth Pawa understood the importance of disseminating this knowledge to others. They recognized the role they could play in raising awareness about climate change and its consequences on our oceans. I invite interested parties to submit an abstract for a session "Indigenizing Arctic: take space at the economic table" Arctic Indigenous enterprises, including corporations, obshinas, operate with dual mandates. They engage in business activities to generate profits while also assuming responsibility as Indigenous entities for their people, culture, language, environmental values, and aspirations. Indigenous businesses adhere to traditional principles, such as avoiding overharvesting, caring for the land, and considering the needs of future generations. Using Arctic regions as case studies, this session will address the following questions: What policies and state design principles are most effective in meeting Indigenous economies? What ‘new’ Indigenous economic institutions have been created in the last years and what are their characteristics? What is the role of Indigenous knowledge and culture in the creation and development of Indigenous economies? How to preserve the unique and intangible Indigenous culture in the market context? We invite contributions from different Arctic regions and communities, and Indigenous and early-careers scholars are especially welcome. We would like to invite presentations across all disciplines that feature successful experience, and explore different models across the northern hemisphere. https://lnkd.in/dVrkiB5Y #indigenizingarcticresearch #indigenousbusiness #indigenouseconomies #sustainability
