Wonderful discussions and learnings today #Researchforum2024 hosted by Philea - Philanthropy Europe Association & Fondazione Cariplo I feel humble to take home the learnings and ideas from the event bringing together foundations across Europe to share knowledge and experience on the field of innovation Some take home messages from the 1st day on foundations' role in the innovation: -Foundations play an important role in holding on to values that go beyond profit and growth. -There is a power in doing things together, innovations born from interaction. -Inclusion from the start: margin-centered design, if it works for marginalized people it works for everyone -Foundations can make a difference in building bridges between knowledge and scale. In addition to the steel focus, TAH Foundation is looking how foundations could support the access to early-stage finance for climate innovations, our newest team member Auli Nikkilä is leading the project. https://lnkd.in/dPpaprbV #ilmastoratkaisuja #acceleratingclimateefforts Looking forward to have more interesting discussions, please reach out and let's connect!

Allow me to introduce myself, the director of Illuminarc - Lisa Rennie My story began before I was born, when my grandparents and parents each embarked on grand migrations to explore new opportunities for a better life. From Portugal to the African continent, my family finally settled in the isolated city of Perth, away from the authoritarianism and apartheid regimes that ignited their migration. Yet, in this little city on the edge of the Indian Ocean, my gaze has remained firmly fixed on the global neoliberal landscape, frustrated with the ongoing inequality and injustice that invades dreams and livelihoods. Illuminarc’s mission draws from two decades of drive and determination to challenge the grand narrative and see beyond the status quo. My approach stems from social impact and political economic analysis insights from a Master’s in Applied Anthropology & Development from the Australian National University. This knowledge builds on my former role as the founder and director of The SCOOP Foundation Australia, an Australian registered charity dedicated to development initiatives in Cambodia and India. The non-profit evolved after an internship with Cambodia’s United Nations Development Programme. Throughout my time in international development, I continued a career as a building designer specialising in designing sustainable and universal access housing. And amongst my efforts to tackle global challenges, I’ve been nurturing two ‘Generation Alpha’ kids who understand global citizenship better than any generation before them. As my career pathway reflects, I am driven to create spaces that harmonise societal well-being with the natural world. The knowledge and insights I have harnessed over the years are embedded within the fabric of Illuminarc’s approach. With a dedication to resolving the interconnected challenges of ‘planet, people, and society’ outlined by the Sustainable Development Goals, Illuminarc recognises that social value extends beyond numerical metrics. Illuminarc is about the richness of the human spirit and our collective capacity to leave a legacy of social good. #unearthsocialvalue #socialimpact #InspireLeadership

Research proves that people with strong, diverse networks are healthier, happier, and wealthier than those who don't.....sign me up! So when I get asked why do you do #diaspora work, part of the answer is that it gives me strong, diverse networks globally and I know where that will lead with the right ideas and a little bit of luck! I learnt this about networks from the work of Kingsley and our colleagues at The Networking Institute. But just think about this for a second (and this is thanks to technology). Yesterday and today, I will have talked to some folks in my networks about different opportunities in #CapeVerde, #Egypt, #Georgia, #Moldova, and #Seychelles. Not all of these were #diasporaengagement or business related but diaspora engagement gave those networks to me and it is why I always try to give back to the networks that diaspora has given me. It is a duty to nourish those networks. After all, as the old saying goes, "the more you give, the more you get"......and that's not just on the wealth side, it is on the health and happiness side too. This is why I am so passionate about diaspora #philanthropy, I have seen it give people so much joy. So many people think the beneficiary of diaspora philanthropy is only the recipient of the support, I see it as the other way around - those who give benefit in such meaningful and often immeasurable ways. So this is a key reason why I do diaspora engagement - it makes people happier, healthier, and wealthier. And we are just getting started on how we can make diaspora engagement work to make those impacts open to everyone. Onwards.

Operational Real Estate Expert, Consultant, Speaker, Podcast Host. Talk to me about PBSA, BTR, Coliving, ESG & AI. Founder of RESI Consultancy, Good Management and Co-host of Housed
I've been contacted by two big property event organisers for help with setting their agenda and finding panellists - it seems that Rebecca O'Hare bringing attention to a lack of diversity in events is driving change. Great. There are a good number of exceptional women working in PBSA, BTR and Real Estate Operators. Genuinely there are too many for me to name here and I think I'm at the stage where I may offend people I leave out if I start tagging superstar operators or suppliers. However, what these two events organisers are struggling with is: Women in PBSA, BTR and Real Estate Investment Institutional capital, lenders, private equity, development etc. Now I know there are thousands and I think the issue is that there just haven't been as many women present at these events in the past either attending or speaking. So I'd just like to shout out three women in PBSA, BTR and Real Estate investment and I would be grateful if you could tag or message me your suggestions for brilliant women working in the field so that I can help in some small way to bring more diversity to some of these events. Here are 3 from me but if you can comment or message me with even one that would be incredibly helpful. Alice Saini - Partners Group Niamh O'Connor - Summix Capital Lauren Wilson - Ares Management I think it's also pretty apt that we have this conversation before the blue suits and gilets descend on MIPIM. I'd be interested to hear from MIPIM Ladies too. Yes, this was another International Women's Day post. Whoever you are, wherever you are, have a great day. TFIF. The picture is of Tallinn, Estonia which was the first time I had ever heard of International Women's Day. They go for it in a big way out there and I think we're just catching up now. #pbsa #iwd2024 #propertyinvestment #btr #studentaccommodation #events #speakers #conference #realestate The Class Foundation Property Week Global Student Living LD Events Property OpRE Real Estate Festival UKREiiF SHURE Initiative StuRents PBSA News #MIPIM

Breaking the Cycle with MeWork: Choosing Passion Over Tradition I am thrilled to share a profound transformation story that's unfolding across the continent, thanks to MeWork. Every day, we witness the power of enabling the right career choices—not just for today's youth but for generations to come. For too long, children in Africa have inherited their futures, confined to careers chosen by necessity or tradition rather than passion and aptitude. These predetermined paths often lead to a cycle of unfulfillment and underachievement. But what if we could break this cycle? Enter MeWork’s groundbreaking initiative: We’re empowering young Africans to explore careers that ignite their passions and utilize their unique talents. Imagine a platform that not only offers early industry skills but also provides insights into where a child's true potential lies. Take, for instance, the story of Nia from a small village in Kenya. Guided by family tradition, she was expected to take over the family business. However, through MeWork’s intuitive career-matching technology, Nia discovered her exceptional aptitude for software engineering. Today, Nia is not just thriving in her chosen field; she's also inspiring her community and rewriting her family's story. This is what MeWork is all about: enabling personal fulfillment and professional success for Africa’s youth. Our mission is to ensure no child is forced into a career that doesn’t resonate with their passion or potential. Join us as we create a future where every African child can pursue a career they love, not one they inherit. Because when we align careers with passions, we don’t just change individual lives—we transform entire communities. 🔗 Let's discuss how we can support more transformative stories like Nia's. Your thoughts and partnerships can help accelerate this change. 👋 Meet the Global Maritime Forum team! 🤝 It’s no exaggeration to say that our organisation would not exist without our managing director, Michael Søsted. A co-founder along with our CEO Johannah Christensen, Michael helped establish the Global Maritime Forum in 2017. It almost didn’t happen. Michael recounts how the process of turning what began as the Danish Maritime Days into the Global Maritime Forum came down to the wire. “Fundraising was not easy. At one point, we considered cutting our salaries in half to make it work or even pulling the plug on the whole thing, but we ultimately secured additional bridge funding to keep the dream alive and then met our fundraising goal,” he says. 💰 Michael and Johannah served as co-directors until 2021 when it was mutually agreed that Johannah would take on the CEO role and that Michael would be the managing director and head of operations. The two quickly became victims of their own success, as the team grew from just themselves and two others to one that now exceeds 40 employees from around 20 different countries. 🌎 “We had a very fast growth period and that certainly caused some growing pains and frustrations. And like any startup, expectations grew exponentially while resources only grew incrementally,” Michael says. 🚀 Several years later, there is better parity between resources and expectations thanks in large part to Michael himself, who oversees funding and “making the organisation tick.” Michael is viewed around the office as something of a straight arrow, a reputation that seems unwarranted as he recounts stories about a move to London in his late teens that nearly ended in disaster, a trip through the Ecuadorian jungle in which he had to barter with an indigenous guide who was prepared to abandon him, and his numerous trips to see his two long-time passions: Bruce Springsteen and Manchester United (in fact, his voice was hoarse from screaming at a match the night before sitting down for this profile). ⚽️ Perhaps his reputation stems from a bit of organisational lore. In the runup to the final Danish Maritime Forum in 2016, Michael was working so hard that he neglected a cracked tooth that slowly got worse and worse until he had to leave the event for the hospital. 🦷 Then there’s the story about the time he planted a tree and followed the instructions so literally that he dug a hole much bigger than needed – only to have to spend time filling it back in. He’s a bit stumped when asked what these episodes reveal about his personality. “If I’m going to do something, I want to follow through and do it right,” he says after a long pause.

Founder & Managing Director Wise Purpose Group I Certified Family Wealth Advisor (Family Offices) I Accredited Mediator for Wealth Dispute Resolution I Coaching Inheritors and C-Suites I Advisory Board Member
Redefining Philanthropy in Singapore: Strategic Giving and the Power of Family Offices As the founder of a Singapore-based family office advisory firm, I’ve witnessed the remarkable transformation of our city's charitable landscape. This shift mirrors a global trend towards more structured and strategic philanthropy, with unique regional nuances from the West to the Middle East, and Asia. 1. The Emergence of the Strategic Donor Today's philanthropists look beyond borders, aligning their efforts with global values. In Singapore, this means supporting local initiatives that enhance our reputation as a hub for social innovation, like the Temasek Foundation International, which nurtures young leaders across Southeast Asia. Similar patterns are seen in the Middle East, where philanthropy addresses regional challenges and promotes stability. 2. Family Offices: Dynamic Engines of Philanthropy Family offices are pivotal in this evolving ecosystem. In Singapore, they favor evidence-based giving and measurable outcomes, such as impact investing. In the Middle East, a strong emphasis on community support and familial responsibilities leads to philanthropic activities that benefit local communities or extended families. 3. Enhancing Impact and Transparency Government initiatives and stricter AML regulations are shaping the philanthropic landscape. In Singapore, donations to Institutions of Public Character (IPCs) come with stringent reporting requirements and generous tax benefits, promoting transparency and accountability. Navigating regulatory frameworks in other regions, though may present additional challenges. 4. Tech-Enabled Philanthropy The digitization of philanthropy is transforming how family offices operate, supporting their evolution into micro-philanthropic organizations. Technology and hiring specialists in impact investment and grant-making are driving this change, a trend likely to spread globally. Looking for a Platform for Organized Giving? The rise of institutionalized giving highlights the importance of platforms like Chamber Music and Arts Singapore. They play a vital role in nurturing cultural development and enriching our community. I attended their recent event, "A Woman's Love and Life," - a heartfelt ode to womanhood, blending live classical music with poetry. If you missed it, look out for the next session on May 24 at Plain Vanilla Neil Road for an intimate evening of classical music and poetry, featuring a specially curated three-course dinner. Limited seats are available—learn more and secure your spot today! Looking to Navigate this New Philanthropic Landscape? For family foundations and boards navigating this new philanthropic landscape #WisePurpose offers specialized advisory services to ensure your giving aligns with strategic goals for impactful and efficient philanthropy. #Philanthropy #FamilyOffice #ImpactInvesting #AMLCompliance #TechInPhilanthropy #CMAS #WisePurpose #StrategicGiving

🤩 Our next featured #HumansofPAPSN is Richard Foy. Richard is part of our PAPSN Strategic Committee and will be speaking at an upcoming webinar “Ethnic Leadership in New Zealand’s Public Sector – Current and Future” on Tue 18 Jun (🔗 Register here: https://lnkd.in/gvcKmbpS). Richard shares with us his ‘why’ and what PASPN means to him. ❓𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒎𝒐𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒕𝒐 𝒋𝒐𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒑𝒖𝒃𝒍𝒊𝒄 𝒔𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒐𝒓? I originally joined the public sector because I wanted to apply my skills (at that time, information technology-based) to solving problems faced by Aotearoa New Zealand...and I thought public service would be the best place to do this. I've since found my skills are imminently transferrable and useful in the public sector and in the various (and diverse) roles I've taken. 💟 𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒅𝒐𝒆𝒔 𝒃𝒆𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒕 𝒐𝒇 𝑷𝑨𝑷𝑺𝑵 𝒎𝒆𝒂𝒏 𝒕𝒐 𝒚𝒐𝒖? PAPSN has helped me open up and connect with a very particular part of my own identity through connection with this community. That personal part is my ethnic Chinese identity stemming from my family heritage and history here in Aotearoa New Zealand. The PAPSN aspect enables me to see my identity and place as an individual within a greater community of Pan Asians who are also just trying to find their place and space in this public service. It hasn't (and isn't) always a comfortable or easy place to find oneself, which is why allies and friends within the network is helpful! 💭 𝑨𝒏𝒚 𝒂𝒅𝒗𝒊𝒄𝒆 𝒐𝒓 𝒓𝒆𝒇𝒍𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒘𝒊𝒅𝒆𝒓 𝑷𝑨𝑷𝑺𝑵 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒚? Get involved! PAPSN is an employee-led network that depends on its network members to participate and contribute. It's voluntary and outside of your day-to-day mahi, but it's supported by Te Kawa Mataaho Public Service Commission, so you're all good to go! Getting involved means attending events (and networking!) and volunteering to help make events and activities happen for our community. Put your hand up, offer to help...you'll get a lot out of it, and usually much more than you put in. #identity #EthnicLeadership #Diversity #PublicSector #network #NewZealand
