🔋 Industry Alert: A Shift in Battery Technology 🔋 Today, we’re witnessing a significant pivot in the battery manufacturing landscape. The battery joint venture ACC - Automotive Cells Company, backed by automotive leaders Stellantis and Mercedes-Benz AG, has decided to suspend work on its cell factories in Germany and Italy¹. This is despite securing a substantial $4.74 billion in funding for three European factories², #ACC is redirecting its focus towards more cost-effective and popular LFP chemistries, moving away from the traditional NMC cells they currently produce. As the Head of Marketing at modual AG, this development resonates deeply with our mission. Modual specializes in repurposing end-of-life electric car #batteries, transforming them into efficient second life #EnergyStorage solutions. The shift to LFP chemistries aligns perfectly with our commitment to sustainability and #innovation. LFP batteries offer many benefits, such as enhanced safety, longer lifespans, and reduced costs—key factors that drive our efforts to make energy storage more accessible and #EnvironmentallyFriendly 🌿. This industry shift is a testament to the evolving priorities towards more sustainable and economically viable #battery solutions. 🔋🚀 We’re excited to be at the forefront of this transition, contributing to a greener and more efficient energy future. Let's continue to innovate and embrace these changes for a more #sustainable world. - Jesse Morris 🔔 Follow Jesse Morris and modual AG to stay informed of exciting developments in: #Technology, #Sustainability and #BatteryTech Source 1: https://lnkd.in/e2zdpKPk Source 2: https://lnkd.in/eu8GPc55

Last week’s The Battery Show Europe brought together battery manufacturers, suppliers and decision-makers focused on the latest developments in the advanced battery and automotive industries. With +15,000 attendees and +1,000 exhibitors, I had walked more than 10 km to connect with new and old acquaintances. Some of the key trends that I picked-up include: 🔋 Technology – Advancements in technology hold potential to further accelerate the transition to EV adoption. These include: battery chemistry (solid-state batteries/bio-based polymers), light-weight materials and aerodynamic improvements, electric motor efficiency and charging infrastructure (fast and wireless charging). 🔋 Chemical suppliers – In an attempt to diversify their product portfolio, chemical companies are eyeing the EV battery value chain to be the partner of choice for battery and electronic components. Companies like Henkel Adhesive Technologies, Dow, Evonik, DuPont Automotive and Saint-Gobain presented electronic adhesives, sealants, thermal and functional coatings to support challenges in battery safety, circularity and productivity. It remains to be seen which one will become the market leader in its segment. 🔋 Consumer Demand – Despite slower sales growth as a result of macroeconomic conditions, EV adoption continues to move from being policy-driven to be consumer demand-driven. In return, this is driving suppliers to further focus on more sustainable materials and battery recycling solutions. Supportive government policies and investments in charging infrastructure will be critical to accelerate EV adoption. 🔋AI – As an enabling technology, AI holds potential in battery material discovery, design + testing optimisation (thermal management, battery life, functional safety) and validation. It will allow to maximize efficiency/durability and reduce the need for frequent replacements. #batterytechnology #batteryindustry #evtechexpo #mobility #innovation George Kazantzis, Emanuel Schorr, Esther Quintanilla Lujan, Dr. Simon Engelke, Vanessa Moriel

Interesting white paper on battery components!!
Dear Battery Experts, Exiting news to share: We just published the second version of our battery components whitepaper! The number of lithium-ion batteries sold will increase significantly in the coming years due to the growing sales of electric vehicles. As a result, the production of components that are installed in battery cells will increasingly become the focus of economic and ecological considerations. In cooperation with the VDMA (Sarah Michaelis and Jennifer Zienow), we summarized everything you need to know about the production of battery cell components. Which components does a battery cell consist of, and in which quantity? What are the most common processes to produce the described components? Which role does every component in a battery cell fulfil? Special thanks to Achim Kampker, Christian Offermanns, Timon Elliger, Nikolaus Lackner and Valentin Mussehl (PEM RWTH Aachen University) as well as, among others the following companies: IBU-tec advanced materials AG, Schenck Process, di-soric GmbH & Co. KG, VITRONIC Machine Vision, Piab - A brand by Piab Group, Eirich official | Maschinenfabrik Gustav Eirich GmbH & Co KG, Mettler-Toledo International, Inc, ISRA VISION, Leybold, Coperion, Brückner Maschinenbau GmbH, Constantia Flexibles Englisch version: https://lnkd.in/eWn5VSqN German version: https://lnkd.in/e2Vnnfjq #Battery #Sustainability #Batterymaterials #PEM #Batterycomponents #VDMA

Researchers at Japan’s Yokohama National University developed a manganese-based battery anode achieving 820 Wh/kg energy density, outperforming nickel-cobalt batteries’ 750 Wh/kg. #Manganese offers a cost-effective, sustainable alternative to scarce and expensive nickel and cobalt. The breakthrough leverages #LiMnO2 in a monoclinic system, enhancing phase transition for superior performance. Unlike previous manganese batteries, this version showed no voltage decay, making it ideal for electric vehicles. The team aims to address manganese dissolution and commercialize the battery technology for broader EV adoption.
