I was privileged to deliver a speech at the SDG hub, Maseno University, Kenya. The speech was centered on the understanding of the SDG 3, I tagged it the Anatomy of SDG 3(I decided to be creative in the coinage of the topic). Talking about the Sustainable Development Goal 3 is one of such topics so dear to my heart due to my choice of career, and that it affects us all. No one is exempted from good health. And really, health is wealth. One can't be productive without good health. I talked about the various subsections of the goals such as maternal mortality, neonatal mortality, infectious diseases, non communicable diseases, sexual and reproductive health, environmental health and universal health. Achieving accessible quality healthcare for all was one of the things I emphasised during the session. And for us in Africa, we have a lot of work to do. Our governments should step up. We have to hold our governments responsible, but that will be a conversation for another day. I ended on the note that we all have to take action, no matter how small the action seemingly looks like. You have to stay safe, protect yourself from avoidable diseases, make your health a priority, teach yourself and others how to live healthy ( you don't have to be a professional to do this, Internet has democratized knowledge, it's just that your source of information must be a trusted body), and lastly, let us hold our governments responsible. We have so much work to do as regards policy and funding. Special thanks to Jimmy Brian Mboya, the SDG Hub Coordinator in Maseno University for the invite. This is my first international speaking engagement and I'm excited. It's from LAUTECH, Ogbomoso to the world. To the world! I remain Peter Abegunde! That name should ring a bell!

Excited to share my latest citation! As we continue to celebrate small wins in research publications join me in celebrating the first citation of my Master of science degree thesis now published in a peer reviewed journal and accessible via this link https://lnkd.in/d-MXEBE4 . In the paper, we investigated the Health seeking behaviours associated with eye care services in Malawi. The work in entrenched in the health belief model which "hypothesizes that health related behaviour depends on the combination of several factors including perceived susceptibility, perceived severity, perceived benefits, perceived barriers, cues to action and self-efficacy". #research #publication #healthseekingbehaviour #healthbeliefmodel #access #universalcoverage

It has been an amazing experience here on the first day of the Africa Public Health Students Summit in Lagos, Nigeria. From the opening remarks to the keynote address, goodwill messages, panel discussions, and presentations, it has been a moment filled with valuable knowledge and impactful insights. There has been discussions on climate crisis as a defining challenge of our time, highlighting its profound impact on the well-being of populations. It represents the greatest existential global public health threat of the 21st century, and Africa, despite contributing the least to climate change, bears the most burden. As youth, we have an immersive role to play at the local level, utilizing both our physical and mental resources. On the global stage, we must increase the momentum. Therefore, it is crucial for us, as young people, to be on the front lines of action, keeping the discussion clear, concise, and consistent.
