Could education be restorative, as opposed to diminutive? In the Abolition of Man, Lewis is arguing just that. Could education really make us more human, instead of suppressing us? Have you encountered education that redeems, restores, and nourishes? Happy Monday! #classicaleducation #classicalconversations #classicalconsulting

Author of BRUTAL MINDS -- Merit, Fairness, Equality, Respect, Results / The views expressed on this site are grounded in academic research and do not necessarily reflect the views of my employer
One of the most important books of the past decade that you probably never heard of is David Randall's "Social Justice Education in America." It is a brilliant takedown of so-called "social justice" on campus -- it exposes the schools and the programs infested with this grotesque facsimile of academia. And Randall offers reforms that, although difficult to execute, would surely rescue higher education from the ideological louts and fake faculty who have gained far too much influence. It's available at the site of the National Association of Scholars, and I offer it in PDF format in the comments below.

People don’t realize that the education system was the main tool of assimilation and abuse to First Nations people. That its intent was to cause harm and destruction. Many of our people were afraid of the education system, since it has historically been a tool to wage horrific abuse on our people. In a modern lens, we are now seeing our people reapproach the education system with the intention of what it was supposed to be used for: Elevating the knowledge, social and socioeconomic circumstances of an individual, and nations. How schools don’t see the significance of these successes in spite of that history is a failure of the educational institution’s own education! Let them wear their beaded caps and feathers!

"In the last few years as districts in New Jersey and the United States have had increasing difficulty finding qualified teachers, one argument many people in education make is the teacher shortage is a casualty of the 'culture wars,' i.e., conservative criticisms of teacher unions, individual teachers, and curriculum." On this #ponderousthursday I am keen to understand educators, pedagogues, pastoral staff ( and of course all the other fabulous humans working in education I have missed) opinions on our democratic processes in our schooling and education systems for the children & young people ......... 🟣 Do you think our systems are truly democratic for our children and young people, and if they are not, should they be? My reading today, focusing again on my revered philosophical approach to education, "The Reggio Emilia Approach", which is underpinned by democratic experimentalism states: 🟣 "A democratic society is precisely one in which the purpose of education is not given, but is a constant topic for discussion and deliberation. The current political climate in many Western countries has made it increasingly difficult to have a democratic discussion about the purpose of education" I feel this more than ever as our schools increase their use of punitive measures to blend all children into a uniformed, submissive, mechanical man. #school #behaviour #education #send #alternativeprovision #reggioemilia
