“For antisense oligodeoxynucleotides to be used to block the expression of selected genes within intact cells, it may be necessary to modify the oligonucleotide to decrease its rate of degradation and improve intracellular transport. An important corollary of our results is that such modified analogs must not only retain normal hybridization properties but should also form substrates that are recognized and cleaved by RNase H.”
It’s with great sadness that we share the passing of Dr. Joseph Walder–the remarkable man who founded IDT, and whose work has made a profound impact on the scientific community.
In 1987, when Dr. Walder established IDT as a joint venture with Baxter Healthcare, his premise for IDT was simple: make science accessible to move discoveries forward. More than 35 years later, his vision has grown into a high-growth, high-impact business with a global footprint that now enables researchers worldwide to accelerate the pace of genomics.
We celebrate the life of Dr. Walder and all the incredible things he has built from his one small idea in 1987, and his beautiful legacy of supporting science innovation, sustainability, and the community. 🕊

"Summers are spent with my family and we always try to squeeze in a trip to Italy 🇮🇹, preferably driving down (by EV of course) so we can explore spontaneously along the way. As someone said: ”the journey is the goal, not the actual destination” – or something like that. And when mentioning goals: being in Milan surrounded by crazy football fans when Italy scored that last-second goal to stay in the Euro Cup was one spectacular memory we got, this time around!
At BioStock we have our sights set on providing our clients and Swedish life science with even more visibility and value, by constantly developing new services, build our media platform and expand our popular events. With the successful premiere of the Global Forum event in May behind us, we’re looking forward to the BioStock Summit i November with several new features (cliffhanger!), but before that we’ll also have an investor focused event in Stockholm in September… it’s gonna be great. But first we’ll enjoy some more summer laziness!"

Rosalie Lipsh-Sokolik, congratulations! This is extremely well deserved for the fantastic work you did as a Ph.D.! I'm so happy to see this :)
Briefly, Rosalie developed new methods for designing libraries of highly functional proteins. In the process, we learned new lessons on the importance of preorganisation, stability, and, most importantly, how to introduce many function-enhancing mutations in an active site without killing the protein. Rosalie then showed how to design huge libraries for experimental screening and isolated more than 10,000 efficient and sophisticated enzymes in one screen each encoding more than 100 mutations from any natural enzyme -- numbers that we never saw before.
I certainly didn't think that protein activity could be designed on such a huge scale. There are already many areas of enzyme and binder engineering that are benefiting from Rosalie's great work, and this is just the start!
