A joy to watch this film. Joy is one of the 10 essential threads of Original Learning - many of the other threads were being mentioned such as risk, time, imagination, interaction, wonder etc Also play. Play is at the heart of children being able to explore their fascinations - an atelier of this kind allows people to play with art materials - to really get to know them. That children with disabilities are being prioritized is fabulous - because if it works for them it usually works for everyone. Recent reading though is making me seriously question the word "special" though - and as an autistic person I have never particularly liked "special rights" - I have the same rights as everyone else - not special ones. Some children/adults need extra support/resources/time in order to access their rights. Special can make it feel a little othering at times. Maybe instead of special school it should be inclusive school? Maybe instead of special needs education - inclusive education? Or rights based education or educational support or? But there definitely needs to be more spaces like this where adults/teachers can practice teaching for/with learner autonomy and can not just know about it, but actually understand it - learning by doing

Fantastic example of interdisciplinary experiential learning that promotes the value of thinking through making. My answer to the second question in the slide below actually sparked a great convo earlier with my colleague Tamar Keenan about how outdated the term "career ladder" is. It makes careers seem so rigid and pre-determined. We don't have to always climb up to progress. It leaves unrealistic expectations and narrows what growth actually means. What should we be saying instead of "career ladder"? Perhaps, we should be calling it "career maps" instead, since there are many different career destinations to consider and pathways to reaching them that are equally as satisfying. This also includes taking the rocket ship up to space (senior management/c-level), which is certainly a destination, but not the only way to grow. I could go on and on, but I'll stop here. Would love to hear your thoughts!

As someone in the adjacent archives sector, I am looking forward to today's Museums Association event: All Inclusive: Championing Accessible Museums "Ableism – prioritising the needs of non-disabled people over disabled people – remains pervasive across the museum sector. Disabled people still face barriers in our buildings, policies and structures, and are chronically unrepresented in our workforce and collections. All Inclusive is our annual one-day conference exploring how museums can become anti-ableist in everything that they do. Anti-ableism recognises abled privilege and actively looks to challenge and dismantle it through theory, actions and practices."  

Museums aren't just repositories of artifacts for display; their vast collections fuel scientific research, education, and public outreach. Preserving and cataloging these collections comes with its own set of challenges, including funding, staffing, and space. MSU Museum is embracing new technologies to digitize their collections, making them more accessible for everyone. What are your thoughts on the importance of museum collections?
