This May, join us as #IACPTalks with experts Nancy Baggett, Von Diaz, and Clarissa Wei. Nancy’s inspiring journey showcases how dedication to research and expertise can lead to success in any field. By offering her own how-to’s, Nancy will relate tried and true ways to reduce your learning curve, and how to create opportunities from your expertise. Then, Von and Clarissa will shed light on the urgent issue of climate change affecting vulnerable island communities. Colonial legacies, geographic isolation, and environmental challenges can make life on islands difficult. But island communities across the globe have tested strategies for survival that are reflected in the complexity, creativity, and resilience of their cuisines. Get ready for these thought-provoking discussions that will empower you to deepen your knowledge and make a positive impact. To get your ticket and learn more, head to https://lnkd.in/dVAvhQSd

Imagining a nature-based future for Europe in 2120! Wageningen University & Research organizes the Mansholt lectures to inspire European policymakers and stakeholders. In 2023, we emphasized the power of imagination, presenting a hopeful vision for a climate-resilient, nature-based Europe by 2120. Building on the 2022 lecture about the food system's role in fostering nature-positive futures, this year's lecture focuses on nature-based solutions as a key part of a collaborative approach to climate resilience and biodiversity, shifting from confronting challenges to embracing opportunities. In this slider the vision will be explained by illustrating several themes. You can view the full storymap via ➡ https://lnkd.in/eScHZBqC

In our choice experiment on nature-based solutions in European cities, we found different influences on decision making across the six countries our survey was conducted in: Living conditions, behavioral attitudes or values of residents vary and will determine which NBS is the right fit. Understanding residents’ trade-offs will help decision makers in European cities choose NBS which are both effective in combating climate change and appreciated by citizens. This week, UPSURGE project partners got together at CENTOURIS in Passau for our spring meeting, where I presented initial findings from research conducted with Ulrike Pröbstl-Haider and Meike Jungnickel. The paper with more detailed results is in the works and I look forward to sharing it when it’s out! #naturebasedsolution #sustainability #choiceexperiment

🌍 It was great to address the #Urbanheat and #climatevulnerability challenges in cities such as Barcelona during the RMIT Europe and International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) workshop. Indeed, we need #transdisciplinary approaches to promote social and climate resilience in urban areas and prevent the exacerbation of existing inequalities.
Urban heat, as a consequence of climate change, is a critical challenge facing many cities across the world and requires a transdisciplinary research agenda to achieve more regenerative futures. RMIT Europe recently brought together a diverse community of researchers for a workshop in Barcelona to explore more equitable ways to address the impacts of urban heat such as drought, wildfires, air pollution and energy poverty. The workshop was undertaken in conjunction with the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA), Vienna. Participants included Professor Philipp Heidkamp, Laura Armayones Carranza, Professor Elena Domene, Zoé Sandoval Ganoza and Sharon S. Baltazar who share their reflections on the participatory process in this highlight video.

Please join us for this talk by Dr. Anaís Roque on 2/16!! To address the complex problems in the Anthropocene, such as climate change impacts, there is a need to rethink how science is done. Convergence research is one such approach that seeks to tear down disciplinary silos through creativity and innovation to co-create new frameworks. This talk will elaborate on an ongoing convergence research collaboration with the Colonias communities in the U.S.-Mexico Borderlands that reveal water injustices experienced by the Colonia residents and ultimately identify potential solutions. Sharing findings from our methodologically innovative project, the talk will expand on the opportunities that bridging participatory approaches and convergence research brings to support novelty, creativity, and more policy-relevant to the phenomenon studied. https://lnkd.in/ed45cf8K.

Hard to imagine a better stage from which to share the first results from our new climate and sustainability research and innovation program. I enjoyed hosting this panel with our Harvard STAR Lab research partners, Professor Michael Hiscox and Dr. Nurit Nobel on the Aquarium Stage at the annual Momentum Conference to share our early progress with 300 business partners, community leaders and sustainability experts. Building on our long and proud partnership with the HSL focusing on financial decision making, we've recently welcomed a new exceptional research team and a number of leading local researchers to work with us and our business partners on this critical focus area. In addition to sharing early results, we spoke about the vision for the partnership, international case studies, importance of careful experimentation across contexts, AI applications and unique Australian opportunities. We spoke about the role of behavioural initiatives among other critical measures - quoting Richard Thaler - "We can’t solve climate change with nudging, but we can’t solve it without nudging" All credit for this work goes to our impressive business partners, behavioural practitioner (COE) experts and new research partners.
