Barcelona's internationally renowned Superblock model is aimed at improving the sustainability and liveability of the city for people, place and planet. Earlier this year as part of Barcelona’s Architecture Weeks, RMIT Europe held an event chaired by Professor Wendy Steele, exploring the future of Barcelona’s Superblocks, a transformative urban design agenda for public spaces that addresses the challenges of urban mobility and public participation in the context of climate change. Keynote speaker Professor Salvador Rueda, an international urban ecologist and placemaking expert, says that “we need to change our cities quickly and urgently” due to the risks posed by pollution to both human and planetary health. Rueda has recently been appointed as a Visiting Professor by RMIT School of Global, Urban and Social Studies, and RMIT University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Rueda's foundation, the Fundacion Ecología Urbana y Territorial (FEUT). Read the full article about the event including highlights from the discussion with Professor Mark Jacques and Professor Marco Amati from RMIT University, and Barcelona-based architects Lucía Millet de Ferrater from Cierto Estudio and Mercè Lorente from batlleiroig. https://lnkd.in/ejTzPQkn

On Sunday we celebrated world walking day. This day encourages people from across the world to engage in a physical activity such as walking, running or cycling, to raise awareness about the benefits of being active. Having the freedom to walk freely in our cities makes a variety of physical activities more accessible and contributes to a healthier living environment. If you're interested in learning more about walkability, take a look our selection of online courses in partnership with EIT Urban Mobility, including 'Urban dynamics: Spatial Accessibility and Real Estate' with Jan Scheurer, Rebecca Leshinsky and Romaine Logere, and our short online course 'Designing Walkability in Cities' with Melanie Davern and Lucy Gunn. https://lnkd.in/ebqcudRm RMIT Online | EIT Urban Mobility - Urban Mobility Explained (UMX) | EIT Campus | Carola Vega
