📣 Project Spotlight: Tae Rak Aquaculture Centre We are proud to have contributed to the Tae Rak Aquaculture Centre in the Budj Bim Landscape, a place of deep cultural significance to the Gunditjmara people. This ancient site, one of the world's oldest aquaculture systems, is a testament to the enduring wisdom of the Gunditijmara, who have cared for this land for thousands of years. In respecting this heritage, we designed an off-grid power system that blends modern #sustainability with the land's #NaturalRhythms. By harnessing #SolarPower and using #EnergyEfficientBuildingPractices, we support the ongoing #stewardship of the land while minimising environmental impact. If you're looking for something to do these school holidays, visit the Budj Bim Cultural Landscape Tourism and learn about the long history of this remarkable aquaculture system. Sustainable blue-ocean development meetings and social media exchanges have proliferated during the past decade even as seafolk remain among the “poorest of the poor” where we live in the central Philippines. Micro-small-medium enterprises (MSME) comprise 95% of businesses globally and contribute more than half of total employment according to WTO. Seafolk in family-owned MSME predominate in tropical seaweed farming but many have failed and seek paths to recovery. Enterprise ecology engages seafolk in seaweed farm enterprises through adaptive phyconomy that applies arts, sciences and technologies to influence, manage and control marine ecosystem services valorized through fair ecoeconomic market systems. At SeaKITShub we are striving to build collaborations that engage with seafolk to restore tropical seashores one enterprise at a time through practical, real world enterprise ecology. Please join us by collaborating in this mission. 🌊🌿 Innovative Mangrove-Aquaculture Solutions for #Mangrove Restoration in Indonesia 🌿🌊 Yesterday, at the International Mangrove Restoration Conference in Abu Dhabi, Apri Astra from Wetlands International Indonesia presented an inspiring case study of #mangrove regeneration along North Java's eroded coastlines. Instead of relying on rigid #seawalls, the team implemented permeable structures to restore natural sediment balance along the eroded #coastline – allowing mangroves to #regenerate with nature's help. This approach wasn’t just about #ecosystems; it also uplifted local #communities through the #Biorights finance mechanism, which for example supported shrimp farmers who engaged in mangrove restoration with mangrove-friendly aquaculture solutions. 🍤 In the Demak region, where #mangrove belts have been cleared for aquaculture, we restored coastal #mangroves and revitalised #aquaculture ponds behind the mangroves. We also introduced 'Associated Mangrove Aquaculture (AMA)', where we allocated part of the aquaculture ponds along inland waterways to naturally regenerate mangroves. This helped - 🌊 Protect pond dykes by dampening wave energy 💧 Enhance water quality by filtering heavy metals 🐠 Support livelihoods by providing wild fry for stocking ponds and increased catch from fish, shrimp and crab 🦀 The approach shows that mangroves and brackish water aquaculture can thrive together, benefiting the environment and local communities. 🌱 🔗 Read our technical guideline on the AMA systems here: https://lnkd.in/gQ4kUGb7 #MangroveRestoration #Sustainability #Aquaculture #Innovation #EcosystemRestoration #CommunityCollaboration #ClimateResilience #Biorights #NatureBasedSolutions #IMCRC Wetlands International is at the first International Mangrove Conference for the Conservation and Restoration of Mangroves. The European project Life Nieblas presents its 💫 FINAL REPORT 💫 that concludes that fog collectors are a hope for bringing #water to the most isolated areas of the world & also those suffering from #drought💦 The key results?👇 🔥🌳 Thanks to the collectors, two areas affected by fire in 2017 and 2019 have been successfully reforested, a laurel forest in Gran Canaria and another in Portugal, as well as an old quarry in Catalonia, three highly complex projects. 📊 In particular, in Gran Canaria, around 40 collectors have collected 12,1901 litres of water in total; 15,000 trees of various species of laurel forest have been planted with a survival rate of 86% - a figure that doubles the survival rate of traditional reforestation, which is around 40%!!!! 🌱🌱 🌎 Chile, Italy and Cabo Verde, have started to use them to bring water to the most difficult sites for reforestation, crop irrigation, watering livestock or even for human consumption in remote areas. Project coordinated by GESPLAN & Cabildo de Gran Canaria, where we have led the scientific restoration work. DOWNLOAD the final report & also read the full informative article in our blog! These results were presented during a conference on fog collectors organised by Life Nieblas in Gran Canaria. 😍 Some projects attended this event, among them, Interreg Euro-MED Natural Heritage as part of their awareness campaign on nature restoration!

Danajon Bank is common property of the Philippines’ people, consigned to jurisdiction by at least 17 separate Local Government Units. Natural resources of the Danajon Bank commons have been devastated over the past 80 years by destructive actions and over-exploitation to the point where the region is no longer economically self-sufficient in marine ecosystem services. Even supposedly “sustainable” economic activities such as the once-prolific seaweed farming had failed value chains by 2021. The Danajon Bank situation is an environmental calamity of exhausted fisheries caused by exploitation of common-property resources without regard for long-term consequences to present and future generations. Enterprise ecology solutions apply arts, sciences and technologies that influence, manage and control biosphere ecosystem services valorized through fair ecoeconomic market systems. This is how we can partner with fisherfolk, seaweed farmers and other aquaculturists to build sustainable enterprises along sustainable seashores. Please join us by collaborating toward tragedy solutions. 🇬🇷🌳 Greek Agroforestry: A Hidden Gem? Greece boasts a rich history of agroforestry, possessing one of the largest and most established #agroforestry areas within Europe. Although the #CAP Strategic Plan recognises its significance by giving a detailed definition, dedicated support for the development of new agroforestry systems remains insufficient. To unlock this potential, we need: 🔍 Improved data collection: to better understand the extent and impact of existing agroforestry, including the status of grazing on communal forest lands. 🎯 Targeted support: prioritise agroforestry establishment in ‘tree deserts’ (grassland/cropland with zero tree cover) and simplify access to existing support measures. 🗣️ Enhanced knowledge sharing: promote best practices and disseminate information effectively to farmers. Furthermore, integrating agroforestry into national climate targets through the National Energy and Climate Plan, and developing robust #carbonfarming frameworks are crucial for a sustainable future. 👉 Learn more in the ResAlliance factsheet: https://lnkd.in/dCvUJ6tv 📷 Author: Hellenic Agroforestry Network | © CC-BY | Olive agroforestry in western Greece. #Agroforestry #Greece #CAP #ClimateAction #SustainableAgriculture
